Hello

I posted this in the ASUS support forums but since this gets more traffic I wanted to try here as well.

I am having a few issues on a new rig I am building. I don't necessarily think there is a problem with the MB but I wanted some expert advice please. My system has been acting a bit funny, particularly when it comes to hard drives. I have listed my components and build timeline below for your review. If you can offer some suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Components

* ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution (Came with BIOS 0311)
* Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem
* 2x CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D
* 2x Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (Raid 0) 100GB Boot drive.
* 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (Raid 0)
* ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink
* CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
* EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Build timeline (note: problem areas are in red)

1. Installed CPU, memory, PSU, video card and diagnostic card. Booted normally. CPU running around 38 degrees. This is not installed on in a case atm.
2. Configured two Velociraptors as Raid 0, created 100GB partion and installed Vista 64. Installed fine. Note: I did not install any ASUS software/drivers at this point.
3. Configured two Seagates as Raid 0 (approx 2.7TB). Not seen by OS.
4. Installed the Intel RAID drivers. Drive visible to the OS.
5. Installed MB drivers from website.
6. Connected and copied data from a 500GB Seagate. After 1.5 hours of copying the system shut off. On reboot code stayed at FF.
7. Disconnected all drives and waited. System booted. Shut down and reconnected drives; system booted fine.
8. Finished copying drive without issue.
9. Replaced Vista with Windows 7 and install went fine. The 2.7TB Raid was seen by OS just fine without Intel drivers.
10. The system would not reboot. Repeated step 7 and it came back up.
11. Copied second 500GB HD to 2.7TB RAID fine.
12. Replaced 500GB HD with a 1TB WD Green and the system would hang on boot at Sata port 5.
13. Replaced the 1TB with a third 500GB Seagate and the drive was found but during the overnight copy the system rebooted. In the morning the system kept freezing up for about 15 seconds every 10 seconds and the event log indicated it was having problems with that drive. The Disk Manager would not come up. All 3 500GB and the 1TB worked in an older system.

The three 500GB drives and 1TB drive are just plugged in to copy data to the new system.

Now I have just the Velociraptors in the system and running a stress test. I will probably go back to Vista tonight until I can get the box stable.

I don't see any red areas, so I guess that means everything is fine?

Run memtest overnight or for at least 4 hours per stick. Run some drive diagnostic tools, or drive fitness tests, available from the drive manufacturer's websites and/or the ultimate boot cd. Report results.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the colors didn't come over and I forgot I mention the red part. Links to the hardware is provided in my ASUS post (so are the colors).
