My sister wants a new computer for her husband for Christmas, sub $400 so I'll use most of my daily work computer (that I just finished building) for her and build myself a new one. I don't need extreme or OC, that's what my sig rig is for, just something to do the everyday chores with. My ideas are below but I'm open to other solutions like PCI card controller for IDE, video card instead of onboard, etc.
Thanks,
Tom
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Daily tasks, AutoCad, dBase, web, streaming video, VMs,
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
let's try to stay under $1,000 tax and shipping incl.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US, zip = 64506, its about an hour to Micro Center
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Cpu - maybe i5 3550
Motherboard - maybe Asus P8H67-m PRO/CSM Rev 3.0
Ram - maybe 16 gb
Power supply - maybe Seasonic 500 to 700 watt range
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Case = Antec Three Hundred Two
HD = Crucial M4 128 gb and 2 80 gb ide drives
OD = LG GH24
Drive rack/card reader = NexStar SE
USB = SYBA Super Speed USB 3.0 PCI-Express Card
6) Will you be overclocking?
I don't think that MB will OC.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1920x1200, 23" or 1920x1080, 25"
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Now
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
IDE
Onboard video (but i could be convinced to buy a card) would like displayport but need DVI
Sata 3
Lots of fan headers
4 memory slots capable of 32gb
USB 20 pin box header (I doubt thats avaiable on any board w/IDE support)
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS?
Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No but NE has a combo for the MB and Win 7 Home Prem and I have an upgrade to Win 7 pro on the way that was for this computer anyway
Thanks,
Tom
