Buffalo NAS (I know, I know) and RAID 1

I have a Buffalo Linkstation Quad with 4x 1TB disks in it, they are configured into 2x RAID 1 arrays of 1TB each, giving me a total of 2TB Storage.

My question is, is 2x RAID 1 arrays considered `safe` from a redundancy point of view?

I`m toying with the idea of a QNAP ts-419u+ -->> http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=190.

I like the idea that it can use 2.5" and/or 3.5" drives, but there seems to be one thing missing.... some kind of torrent support.

Does anyone know of a nice NAS with upgradeable disks with decent performance that supports FTP, DLNA, BitTorrent, rack-mount would be nice, as would a web server but neither of these are deal-breakers/essential, oh, and support for a different RAID level (to be recommended here) RAID 5 maybe??

Many thanks

419 supports torrents?

Features - http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=190 - supports RAID 5...this seems to be what you want..

Download Station & QGet
QNAP NAS features Download Station for high-speed BitTorrent, HTTP (including RapidShare support), and FTP download without PC. RSS download (broadcatching) is also supported for automatic BitTorrent download. QGet is a powerful utility which can be installed on any Windows or Mac computers to manage the download tasks of multiple Turbo NAS servers remotely (LAN/WAN).

I wouldn't use a torrent engine from a NAS. Personally.

Is this for a home? If so,

Edit: Comments on raid levels:

I prefer RAID 5 for most file/application use.

The QNAP does have a torrent application server built-in. I've used it on my QNAP; works great. Scroll down to the bottom of your link:

Lovely, thanks missed that at the bottom....

Raid 5 it is then, cheers:D

Any particular reason why? I use the one in my linkstation and while it`s horrible and clunky (a bit like the UI in my HP 1810G-24 switch) it is functional and works very well.

It is indeed for home, and there are two differences between the 419P and the 419U (one more valid than the other) 1) the 419U uses less power (on paper at least). and 2) the 419U will go in my LackRack:D;)

That`s a nice simple explanation of RAID levels, nice one!! Definitely RAID 5 I think.:)

Thanks for your input, keep it coming.

Yeah got it, Tim pointed that out, don`t quite know how I missed it:confused:

Ah well,

thanks

Sure it functions well but I don't have faith in a program to auto-choose downloads or anything. I've never tried the service, and prefer to keep the torrent choosing to my own responsibility. Methods included.
