What a nightmare, i just wanted something temporary while i change computers and won't have my main system for a week or 2 and smallnetbuilder said this wasn't so bad for the price.

Buffalo LS421DE
http://www.buffalo-technology.com/e...kstation-421-series-network-attached-storage/

Nothing but dam problems from the start, i guess my research wasnt enough!

1. firmware does not load on boot with this one if you get an older one, had to do a hack job on an ini to get it to load the system

http://www.newegg.com/Product/SingleProductReview.aspx?ReviewID=3863592

2. Problem now, i have my 3T drive in it, loaded the firmware again (if you dont it just boots into Emergecy Mode and you can't do jack sh*t), have web access, but it says "HDD not formated" so i go to the Advance Settings, Drives, and click to format the drive, but get a nice error

Format failed. Make sure that the drive is not configured as read-only. Try rebooting the LinkStation.

But i see no options to set a drive as read only or not, it seems when you do the firmware update, it uses the Disk 1 as the disk to write to, and thus locks the dam drive so now you cant use it!

Now i would love to post on their forums, but i can't even register becaused apparently i am retarded

Question
Second part of word in most Buffalo Products:

I got no dam clue.. sure it is obvious but i tried everything i could i saw on their site, spent a good 10 mins trying every work and checking every product....

So i just hit refresh about 10 times for registration on their forums and got asked an easier question

First word in Buffalo's slogan:

wondering how much it would cost me to send this piece of sh*t back from Costa Rica!

ugh now every post you make on their forums has the dam

"Second part of word in most Buffalo Products:"

i tried tech / Tech

no go!

Well all their hard drives are drivestation, and their portables are ministation.

So the answer they're looking for is station. The bovine answer is buffalo, but you probably got that one.

good to know, thanks cashkennedy, didn't even think of Station! i was looking all over there websites across their products.

Stanza33,
Those were the instruction i ended up following but direct from Buffalo's site.

i had done the clean on an SSD 3 times on my main box

Another method was to do the clean, install the HD and it should then show a white and red light once powered on, which it hadn't done previously with the old or new firmware, then you press the function button on the front and it does everything, only after doing it this way did it work properly.

So now it is working, but of course, not seeing anywhere near the 80Mb/s they "claim" even with a test Intel 80g SSD in this box with a direct connection to my desktop and moving a 13Gig file

:(

At least it is working i guess.
