Well, I've got to upgrade but I'm on a really tight budget: $350 roughly.

My current specs:

ASUS A7S333 Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1900+ (1.6GHz)
512MB DDR PC2100 RAM
GeForce 3 Ti200 64MB
48*10*40 CD-RW Drive
160GB Hard Drive Space

I'm keeping my video card, CD burner, and hard drives, and am getting the following parts...

DFI nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "NFII ULTRA INFINITY" -RETAIL ($95)
Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton", 333 FSB, 512K Cache Processor - OEM ($85)
Thermalright SLK-947-U Copper Heatsink for both Intel and Amd,Retail. ($40)
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM ($110)

Total: $330

Think that's good for the price? (Note: I have an extra 80mm fan laying around for my CPU)

it seems really good, but are you sure you want to upgrade now? why not wait a bit -- or build a new system (re-use the parts afore-mentioned) based on a 3000+ A64 sys? (Chaintech ZNF3-150 is a good [reputedly] Socket 754 board).

other then that though, it looks like you'll do fine :D

Well the other issue is that I'm going to be taking a 40GB hard drive out of here and using the old parts to make a server for a gaming league I'm part of...so the sooner I upgrade the better.

I'm not really sure how much longer I can wait for a big upgrade, especially since I'd like to get a 9600XT as well and I don't have a job. :p

Why dont u drop the processor and get the 5900nu<---yes nvidia, its the best budget card cuz it (BFG tech) will def oc to 5950U speeds.

Itll be a bit more than u want but u should oc that proc

I was planning to OC the processor....but I love my GeForce 3 for now. I'd rather get a new processor than a new video card.
