ok.. i want to make a file server..

i am thinking i will get 4 or 5 of whatever is a good price for the money

you get the point.. so i would need a raid card..

do i want to get all the drives now? or get them as i fill them since the drives get cheaper over time?

do i really want raid? i don't want raid 0.. but something wehre i can swap a bad drive and not lose data.. raid-5 probably..

i could just get 1 drive for now.. and add one as i fill it.. and not do raid.

that is most likely the cheapest solution given the trend of harddrive prices over the past 10 years.
