Hi,

Get my student loan soon and lookin to get a budget PC \ HTPC.

Will be used to do my Uni work and will be connected to my TV to watch things i've downloaded.

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)
Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD501LJ)
Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Antec NSK 3480 Micro ATX Case - 380W Earth Watts PSU

I want to use the onboard HDMI port to be connected to my TV and the DVI to be connected to my monitor.
Does anyone know if I connect them both and they will work at the same time so I dont need to keep connecting and disconnecting leads.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Matt

I don't think so, that is what dual port graphic cards are for. Why not get a laptop for college work and build a dedicated HTPC?

Tell the thuth, just got a student loan and i want a xbox360 (gta4 is soon), 32" lcd, and a £500 PC.

Want to be able to play on the xbox the tv and my pc on a monitor, but be able to switch the pc over to the tv to watch downloads. I live in a small flat so the tv will be close enough to the pc anyway.

Couldnt really afford a laptop, any ideas how i could find out if this is possible, the gigabyte boards seems the best buy.

(I apologize in advance if this sounds old and crotchety...I don't mean it to sound that way)

Am I the only one who thinks that you shouldn't be using your student loan to buy entertainment products? Personally, I'd pass on the TV, HTPC and xbox360, and buy a laptop or inexpensive PC. That way I wouldn't be in debt as much, and I'd have fewer distractions from my academic work. Of course, depending on your field of study, you might have lots of spare time. If that's the case, though, it might be a good idea to get a part-time job so you have to borrow even less!

Yeah, maybe I'm boring. But I also have a goal to retire at age 45 with $1m in the bank :)

Thanks for the input guys.

awoeonip - that board does look ideal, but i really wanna go with a c2d. but if i was to build an amd system then that would be ideal.

Mohonri - no need to apologize mate, i came here for help so any input is good. But, I get £2000 student loan every 4 months. I get £600 wages a month, so im ok for money really. Spending money on things like xbox's,TV's, PC's stops me spending it all down the pub as I have done with my previous 2 loans. I just try and forget about the debt thing.

The LCD TV has gone out of the window :(

Here is what i've finally decided on:
OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
BenQ G2400W 24" Widescreen HDMI/HDCP LCD HD Monitor - Black
Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
Antec NSK 3480 Micro ATX Case - 380W Earth Watts PSU
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Logitech Deluxe Keyboard (Black) - OEM
Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD501LJ)
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail
Xbox 360 Elite Edition

Will try and overclock the CPU to 3GHz, I am looking to put a 3870XT in,in the near future as I hear the 380W PSU can handle it. This way I have a PC for Uni work\Internet and an xbox360 I can play on the monitor with 1:1 pixel mapping.

Just rented a flat too, so gotta spend a couple of hundred on that, oh dear.
