Pentium CPUs aren't really superb for anything more than email and word processing these days. Definitely shoot for at least 2nd gen i5, 8gb DDR3 1600mhz, and I would even up the GPU if you have the money.

why not get a pentium DC plus a Z97 from MSI+ any ole DVD RW+ and ram from a special off newegg. the license for W8 can be had for 50-70 off the FS/FT section.

All in all your looking at exactly $400 for ur parts

G3258
MSI Z97 PC Mate
OEM DVDrw (any brand honestly that 12-15)
RAM Special (newegg loves this every week so check it out)

Sorry.
1. Intel Core i3-4130
2. MSI Z97 PC Mate LGA 1150 Intel
3. Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit
4. LITE-ON DVD Burner 24X
5. HyperX Fury Series 8GB

Go with the Pentium G3258. It's cheaper than an i3 and overclockable - your son will have fun with this.

The most important thing for a gaming rig is ALWAYS the GPU. And a Radeon 7770 is really behind the times. A GTX 760 will double the performance.
