So I'm getting close to ordering my parts and I have a strict budget of 520$ total for pretty much a whole new system. Minus KB,mouse and display. I have some old HDDs and dvd burners that are IDE. I have selected a mobo with both SATA and PATA/ide.

The mobo only has one PATA so I was curious if I could run a HDD and optical on one ide strip? I've always had them seperate. One for opticals and one for HDDs. I can then just pick up a new hard drive when the prices come back down? If I can't put them both on one ide cable im going to have to skimp on my GPU and go with a 6850. If I can get by without getting a hard drive right now I'll be able to get a 6870. Here's a list of my parts that come to 523 @ newegg.

Also if i can get by without those I can get more/better RAM and PSU.

So the real guru's can help ya out, please answer the questions in this post http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1349433

$203.98 Intel 2400 cpu and 4gb ram combo
$49 - Biostar H61MGC Intel H61 mATX Motherboard
$129.98 - Western Digital Blue 500GB HDD and Corsair 500watt PSU
$159.99 - PowerColor AX6870

542.95 - I'd save up another $23 if I was you, but you could drop down to a smaller drive and weaker power supply and fit the budget

Granted this doesn't take into account your IDE components, and it's an Intel build, just an example of a system, you can get a IDE to usb adapter for $8 on amazon.com

Total: $539.50 all shipping is free.

I know you want to stay AMD and this should be a nice base to build from. And to save $35 dollars you could use a AMD Athlon II X4 645 for your cpu while you wait for pile driver. Hopes this helps.

Drop the HDD if you don't absolutely need the space. The prices on HDDs right now are stupid high because of the floods/shortages. If you have an existing HDD limp along with it for as long as you can. Otherwise checkout ebay, getting something to hold you over. A 500GB HDD for 130 is just crazy. For reference, I bought a 2TB Hitachi 5900rpm HDD shortly before the floods for $65 on sale, no rebate from Newegg.

Actually, that $130 is for the 500GB HDD and 500W PSU combo - and that's before shipping. The combo actually costs $139 shipped.

And the OP has only PATA hard drives. Most new motherboards have absolutely no PATA ports whatsoever.
