Well, i've finally decided to buy a new pc, since the one i'm currently using is really really old and it won't be able to run hl2 or doom 3. Anyway, i have ~$1,100 to spend on the whole PC.

What i currently want is:
AMD Athlon 64 for the processor
A compatible mobo
1 GB ram (512x2 DDR will work)
CD / Floppy drives
80 GB hard drive
Some decent speakers for playing doom 3 / hl2
A really really cheap keyboard / mouse (i have the ones i want on this computer, and i'll need a keyboard and mouse so my dad can continue to use this computer when i get my new one)
A OK looking case
And probably a new monitor (unless a monitor that i have from like 1999 will have decent refresh rates and is compatible with a new computer)

And what i have right now is:
700 mhz AMD k-6
s3 savage 4 (video card)
SB PCI128 (soundcard)
Logitech elite keyboard + MX310 mouse

Anyway, any advice on what to buy would be appreciated... I plan on buying the computer in december, when prices go down a bit.

Well, you could try asking in 4 months when it's time.

But, judging from prices right now... Oh yeah, when you say 'buy' I'm assuming you mean buy the parts so you can build it, not 'buy' as in prebuilt. Anyway...

Processor: Socket 754 Athlon 3200+ - $220 Retail version
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo Platinum - $126
RAM: 2x512 MB Crucial PC3200 - $160
CD/RW - Lite-ON 52x CD-RW drive - $35
Floppy - anything that's $10 or less
Hard drive - Western Digital WD800JB or Seagate 80 gig, 8 MB cache - $60 or so
Speakers - Logitech Z640? $60
Video card - for now, I'll say a Radeon 9800 Pro - $190
cheap mouse,kb - probably $20 total
Case - your pick. If it's to come with a power supply, I generally like Antec cases

So, without counting case, mouse, keyboard, you're looking at $821.

What monitor do you have, by the way? Any monitor you have with work with vid cards today, and I doubt you have a BNC monitor.

yeah i guess i am jumping the gun a bit... but i am kinda interested in what to expect from my new computer ;)

anyway, It's a crt monitor, came with some 200 mhz toshiba Infinia 7200 computer that my sister bought. I'm hoping that it'll work, because that'll save me ~$100
