1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Friend's computer, will be used for primarily for gaming, and he might possibly use it for recording/remote desktop.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
900$ (we are buying the case locally), so it could tip over 900 a little. Tax and S+h should be included.
3) Where do you live?
Vegas, so we get stuff the next day from newegg.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
All the hardware except for the case, mouse, and a screen. I'm not certain if he wants speakers or a new keyboard.\
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
None except for mouse and maybe keyboard. He is coming from an iMac.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Possibly an OC on the CPU.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I have no idea, he said he would take care of that.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next week to month, by the end of summer most definatly.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
Just the ability to make the computer run, iirc most mobos support both SLI and Crossfire, but I don't think he is going to use dual gfx cards so it doesn't matter.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
We have a legit XP home key and are going to use a win-7 ultimate upgrade disk. Going to use x64 Win7 Ultimate

This is the hardware that we have picked out so far:
CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215 Core i5 2.66 ghz quad
PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182044 Changed this
RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
Mobo- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128405 GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GFX card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447 XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (combo deal for the PSU)
HDD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074 was changed to Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB
OS- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116715 Windows 7 upgrade ultimate x64
DVD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030 Sony Optiarc Black DVD burner

We would like to keep the CPU as he is a big multi-tasker, and it would seem that it isn't that much of a challenge to OC it to 3 ghz if the need arises. We want to stick to Intel, but graphics is open to nVidia or ATI
It's also a computer that imo can be upgraded if the need arises and has plenty of room for upgrades, but as it is when he orders the parts doesn't need an upgrade in 6 months.

If I didn't make any sense please ask and I'll re-explain what you didn't understand.
The rest is up to you guys as to what needs to be changed

Thanks in advance ;D

Could you please just list out the parts? Makes things easier for us.

EDIT: Any particular reason why you're going for Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade?

Also, the PSU is a piece of shit. You're gonna have to replace the PSU.

Windows 7 is just so he can actually use 4 gigs of ram, and it's cheaper to just buy the upgrade
Any suggestions for a new PSU?

No I mean why did you choose Windows 7 ULTIMATE when Windows 7 HOME is cheaper?:
$100 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

I recommend this PSU:
$90 - Corsair 650TX 650W PSU

Can't offer any more advice until I know the rest of the parts you chose.

I posted the whole list

I meant write out the names of those parts so that others don't have to open 8+ tabs just to help you. Just a tip the next time you ask for help in this part of the forums.

Any way, ditch the HDD as you can get a siginificantly faster drive for $5 more:
$56 - Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Go with this PSU/GPU combo deal:
$245 - XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card + XFX P1-650X-CAG9 650W Modular PSU

I agree with Danny.

First, that particular Rosewill PSU is a piece of junk because it (judging by the UL number) is made by Allied/Deer/L&C/Solytech, one of the very worst PSU manufacturers in the world (and it's not just certain PSUs of theirs that are bad, it's that the Allied/Deer/L&C/Solytech PSUs are CONSISTENTLY HORRIBLE). In fact, it can't handle even half of its overinflated wattage rating under anywhere close to realistic conditions.

Second, the 320GB WD Blue HDD is decisively overpriced: If it isn't a relative slowpoke (which it really is given its relatively low transfer speed and relatively long access times), it has a piss-poor capacity-to-price ratio.

Alright going for the Combo on the graphics card and psu
Changed hard drive
I updated the list to have the part names

Go with this combo deal to shave off another $15:
$290 - Intel Core i5 750 CPU + Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 mATX Motherboard Combo
