Okay, I was challenged by a family member to put together a PC for a younger cousin that can do some light/moderate gaming for $499 (it can break $500 after tax/shipping). Has to be complete, CPU, Monitor (LCD), etc... Needs to be upgradable. Any takers? =)

Motherboard: ASRock 939Dual SATA2 = $72.
CPU: Athlon 64 3000 = $137.
RAM: Corsair Value Select 512 MB = $42.
GPU: eVGA GeForce 6600 GT AGP = $140.
HDD: Maxtor 40 GB SATA = $44.
Case / PSU: Cooler Master Centurion 540 with 380W = $73.

Total: $508 INCLUDING SHIPPING (much less if it was without).

Mouse: Microsoft 1.1A = $12.
Keyboard: Microsoft Internet = $12.
Headphones: Logitech Battlefield 2 Headset = $8.
Monitor: Dell E151FP 15in LCD = $170.

Total: $710 INCLUDING SHIPPING (much less if it was without).

Sigh, nope. Get some deals at FS/T - you'll get a bunch off and you can reach your $500 goal. I just don't know what to tell you about the LCD thing. You may want to wait for Dell's or Fry's deals.

i think it would be horrible to game on a great15 inch LCD, let alone a cheap one

go for the 17in CRT and youll meet your goal

I think the whole system itself is horrible, lol. :p But he asked for a LCD within $500. That's sort of impossible. Hrm.

Thanks, normally I wouldnt have a problem putting this together, but since the budget is so tight, I was at a little bit of a loss.. your suggestions do help out for a general direction.. I appreciate it.
