budget card for my system?

hi guys,
i'm in hong kong at the moment, on holidays from australia.

i've been reading the forums for a while, trying to get an idea on what the best card would be for my system. currently i'm running an old geforce 4400ti and am currently looking to upgrade.

it'll be on an asus p4p800se mobo, and i don't think it supports pci-e or what ever it's called.

not looking at spending too much, i'm not an extreme gamer, though do like eye candy. so looking for the middle ground between price and performance. i also appreciate that spending a few extra $$ might increase the lifetime of the card (ie. takes longer to become outdated etc.)

sofar i've got the following cards on a list. looking for your oppinions / recommended cards. thanks heaps for any help, and i've already looked over the stickys in these forums.

Cards
Asus v9570 Geforce FX 5700TD 256M with tv out (going for $250AUD)
Gigabite N66T128D GEF6600GT 128M 8xAGP ($329AUD)
Radeon 9550 256meg tv/dvi ($159)
Radeon 9600xt ($250AUD)

from reading, seems that the 9800pro or 6600gt would be the one's to go for, but i think they're out of my price range. hopeing to spend less than $160USD.

you can more than likely find some cheaper and by no means am i saying newegg has the cheapest prices, also since you live in Australia you might want to find a more local reseller to save on shipping

a ti 4400 is a good card so i would go with something higher than the cards you listed

back from hong kong, definatley not worth buying electronics stuff there anymore.
there's not a large enough difference between locally sourced bits and pieces to ustify not getting a local warranty. :(
 
based on the prices you listed, you're not going to get anything better than you have for what you're willing to spend. The 5700/9600 is going to be similar in performance to your 4400 - the only real difference would be that you'd get DX9 support. it's not really worth upgrading a 4400 to anything less than a 9800 or 6600.
 
Ameoba's right...although you might be able to pick up a used 9700pro/9800pro off the forums for about that much...not sure how much shipping to australia would be though. A 9700pro would be a decent upgrade as well...
 
I agree. If you're not prepared to spend the money on a 6600 or 9800pro then it's not worth it. I'd go with the 6600GT tho, you won't be disappointed if you like eye candy. Otherwise wait a while - when the next gen cards come out you may be able to pick a decent upgrade in your price range.
 
6600... best choice , although a bit more expensive.

anyone know if the 6200 AgP's are you yet?

Yup - but they cost almost as much as the 6600s.
