Whats the best budget card for the 1920X1080 resolution that will run most games on medium/high?

8800 GTS of ebay, 8800 GTX, 9800 GTX+, 4850.

If i were you look on ebay, some amazing deals on there right now. You'll get a huge value if you can snag a 8800 or 9800 for cheap.

Any deals with a 4850? whats the best price/performance with the new 4870 1gig and the gtx 260?

my 8800gts 320mb is dying in all the new games at 1680x1050 with stuff set to high (no aa/af) if you do go with that choice try grab a 640mb... I dunno how much difference is gonna make but the 320mb is gonna lag at 1920 for sure.

Those are both G80 versions. You want a G92 512mb one.

Stay away from the 320mb, 640 is better. Overall he wants med-high he'd be better off getting a cheap 8800 gtx which can be oc'd and will have better vram than a 9800 gtx. 8800>9800 in high res.

at 1920x1080 you're gonna want more than 512MB RAM. speaking from experience here.

GTX 260 fits the bill if you can get it for under $200.

GTX 260 192 core works great for me at 1080p and run pretty much all new games very well.

The 8800GT 512MB I had also worked well for me. Ran TF2 great and The Witcher was more then playable on high settings with 2x FSAA.

So I'd say GTX 260 192 core for $200, 8800GT or 9800GT 512MB for $100. (or the comparable ATI/AMD cards)

I think more or less a budget card is sub 150< but with cheap gtx 260s it seems like the best bet if you can afford it.

Quoted for truth. 1920x resolutions need more than 512MB, period. Look at either the 896MB GTX260 or the 1GB 4870. GTX260 usually wins.

Only if you use AA... When someone says a budget card I think under $150, generally. And no budget card has enough horsepower to enable AA at that resolution anyways. A 4850 should be plenty to crank the details and AF at least.
