I'm helping out a friend who just lost her computer and is looking into buying another one, I was unsure if it was better to just buy a DELL/HP for what she needs and the price, or just build a PC, All she really does it is Web/Music and MS Word/Burn CD's

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Web Browsing/Music and Alot of Writing
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$500 Shipped/Taxes
3) Where do you live?
California
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Full Build and Monitor
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
None
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Would like a 15" or bigger Monitor
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next week
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
None
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
No

Thanks!

Yeah, for the usage scenario you described, a prebuilt would be a better idea. Go to slickdeals.net or www.gotapex.com for Dell prebuilt deals.
