Ok...budget based upgrade question. Below is my current setup.
Northwood 2.6c 533FSB
500w PSU
6600GT AGP
512MB pc2700
all on a OEM mATX MSI board put together for Medion...therefore the Bios is basically nuetered.
I added the PSU and 6600GT to keep things moving along about a year ago.
Would it be worth it to spend a little money on a non OEM 478 board so that I can overclock the 2.6 and get a little more life out of this system. I already plan on upgrading the memory to at least 1gig (that's the next question)
As far as the memory is concerned. What are your opinions on the longevity of PC4000 memory. I was contimplating spending a little extra and getting 2gigs of PC4000 for this box (therefore hoping to extend it's life a little more as well) and hoping that I would be able to then move that into a new (budget) machine say in 1.5-2 years.
I'm basically happy with my current setup's performance outside of the obvious need for more memory due to current games. But I also know that I may start bumping up against the limits of the 2.6 in the next year and wonder if it's worth $40-50 for a new MB that would allow me to overclock it.
Be gentle please. I'm in the industry but have 1 income and 2 kids and a wife so system upgrade money is hard to come by.
If either of the above senarios make sense then suggestions on mobo models that nicely support OCing would be helpful.
Thanks
