Well with all the new hardware coming out I thought I had enough to buy on hand for ex. new DDR2 when available along with PCI Express video card with new Intel processor sporting a Socket T configuration for those new things I will need a new motherboard to support all those as well

but I also just now realized as if though thats not enough

they made a new form factor
btx....so now i will have to purchase a btx compatible PSU and case to house all the shit

as if the first things listed werent expensive enough

toms crapware has a pic up on his website now of the btx form PSUs and what they look like
ugly if you ask me(bigger)

yep, get ready for buying an entirely new formed beast.

I've heard that the BTX HSF for proc is HUGE, way way heavier then they are now. I think I read that on some review site somwhere, I don't remember where though.

Wow.. your not kidding on the PSU for a btx system.. man this thing is fugly.. look at this thing:

Aren't the BTX cases supposed to be smaller than ATX? That PSU looks quite a bit bigger than an ATX PSU.

I find it quite funny that throughout the whole BTX discussion no one has mentioned that BTX DOES NOT DEFINE POWER SUPPLIES!!!!!! If you look at the spec sheet, it recommends three different PSU specs depending on the system: ATX, CFX, and TFX. It does, however, mention versions of these, and for ATX it's version 2.2, not the 2.03 we're used to. ATX 2.2 has two major differences: A move to a 24-pin connector (which happens to be the same pinnout and connector as EPS12V)as a result of increasing mobo power demands bc of PCI-E, and the removal of that annoying AUX connector. It's not BTX that's changing the PSU, it's PCI-E and the new ATX 2.2 standards. Check it out on formfactors.org, it's all right there.

I think it might be slightly smaller...but thats just form looking at the wire bundle coming out of it.

The shape will help though, it will allow for the PSU to "overlap" the motherboard along the top edge if needed.

PSU shape has not changed in the specs, I dunno what tom's is showing, but it's not ATX 2.2

You dont have to use those PSUs. The connectors on the btx mobos are the same as the atx connectors.. :)

Well... Yes you use ATX connectors, but not 20-pin ones. The new ATX 2.2 specifies 24-pin EPS12V compatable connectors. Please, please before chiming it read the spec pdfs. Formfactors.org

well it seems to be almost atx rotated 180 degrees.
i just got a nice coolermaster case so hopefully i can just mod the case to btx-ie putting in new standoffs.

all the bays on the board have been swapped you'd have to do a lot of modding to make it look 'nice'. But BTX isn't for awhile anyways.. so no rush. The cool think is they're making 3 sizes ..

Regular BTX
mini
pico

The pictured power supply is representative of the CFX12V power supply which replaces the Micro ATX specification. The power supply is very similar in general size to an ATX 2.03 supply but of course a big chunk is cut out. The reason for the "big-but-not-big" size is to keep the volume small for small cases, but still accomodate quiet 80 mm fans instead of 60 mm fans.
