Have a very slippery BSOD issue with the system in my sig.

At first I thought my CPU cooler had just gathered too much dust and choked air flow.
I removed the covers and check, found very little dust but blew everything out with compressed air.
Ran AMD Overdrive and monitored temps under load. The FX-8120 OCed to 4Ghz runs damn cool at 19-20c on the stability test.
Interesting because this is with the low profile stock cooler. I have a 120mm fan forcing cool outside air directly onto the stock cooler and fan. Idle clock is 1.4Ghz but the fan idles so temp shoot up to 54c. This never presented any issues and the system BSOD when gaming. I do HD transcodes that can take a couple hrs with the CPU running 80-100% the whole time, never had a issue so everything is pointing to the GPU.

Ran FURMARK to see if the GPU craps out if you run it hard. At the 1080p test it did 33 FPS average and the GPU got as hot as 78c but ran solid during the 15 minute burn in test. I was expecting it to blue screen, but it never did.
That temp seems pretty hot to me but I'm not really as familiar with correct temps for this type of GPU. The stock cooler for the card is a triple fan with a heat pipe cooler.

In the past when I had a heat related GPU issues, I would start noticing weird graphic artifacts when gaming. But this thing just blue screens within 20 minutes of gaming.
It is usually FPS games like Crysis 2, etc. Can play Terraria with my son all day, won't have any issues.
OS is Win7 64bit
Driver is Catalyst 14.4
Any ideas guys??
 
Did you look at the Event Viewer, may have some pointers on what is going on.

Is anything overclocked - GPU,CPU or memory, if so revert these to default settings and then check.

Edit - If you're concerned about temps, you could use some sort of monitoring tool that outputs to the screen (to allow active tracking) or writes to a file, so that the next time it BSODs, you can check back in your file for the temps.
You can use MSI Afterburner for the former and GPU-Z for the latter.

CPU is OCed but memory and GPU are stock clocked.

I'm starting to lean toward just poor air flow. Made great efforts to keep the CPU cool, none really concerning the GPU.
And this is in a desktop case sitting in a cabinet.
 
78c isn't that hot, especially if you were running furmark at the time. I agree with QD that you should look in event viewer and see if a driver or stop code is listed for the BSODs that might point you in the right direction.
 
furmark is a poor dianostic tool, its only purpose it to suck as much power as possible.

use game benchmark loops or Heaven.

As suggested, check the event viewer and use a tool like whocrashed? or bluescreenviewer to view the bsod logs.

Im inclined to think its your powersupply. Try a spare if you have one.

I will try to decipher the reason it BSD when it happens again. I removed the cover from the system and did some gaming. Gamed on a FPS that it typically crashed on for an hour+ no problem whatsoever.
I ran FurMark again and watched the temp. The hottest the GPU got was 61c and that is much cooler.
CPU improvement was only by 1 degree celsius so this tells me it is getting more than adequate airflow for the CPU while the GPU is getting very poor air flow.
I will have to mod the case a bit to fix this but I do agree likely the issue may be something else like the memory.
Will have to dig deeper when I have more time.

your cpu cant run at 19-20c. something isnt right there, unless youre on water.
 
Get the BSOD information, that is going to hold the answer. It could be anything, RAM, CPU overclock, etc. 78c core is NOT too hot for that card.

I downloaded BlueSceenView and got report.

Looks like AMD driver is crashing.
Anyone care to interpreter the report? ;)

Looks like its been a reoccurring issue, although more so lately.

I still say try a different/newer powersupply.
 
Did this to me again even running with the cover off.
I did driver sweeper and then reloaded the driver. So far been gaming a couple days without a problem. But it was a pretty intermittent issue. We will see.
