BSOD after upgrade

Hey guys,

So I've run into an issue, and I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction.

I replaced my motherboard the other day (MSI to ASRock) and when I finished the swap, the system booted itself like normal, installed the new drivers for the ASRock board, and seemed ok. At this point I added a 2nd 7970, and have been through a couple of sets of drivers.

However, I've had the odd lockup and blue screen (which never happened before the upgrade)

Things that could be causing it:

overclock to 4.4ghz on the processor
overlapping drivers?
video card hardware issues

My first thought is to nuke the system from orbit and reinstall windows (I hate doing this though, because windows updates take for frigging ever).

The BSOD's and lockups are not consistent, they seem to happen randomly, so I'm not sure of the best approach.

I could run not-OC'd for a few days to see if that makes a difference first?

I'm usually a stickler for "start from scratch" on new hardware, but I was just kind of shocked it didn't make me do that.

Thoughts?
 
When there's overclocking involved when BSOD occurs, always set the system back to stock speeds.

So do that and report back if you have any issues. Also, remove your second HD 7970 to rule that out as well. Better yet, use that second HD 7970 as your main GPU for awhile to see if that part is the issue. Of course, physically remove that first HD 7970 from your system.

I am using the new 7970 in the first slot (i used it solo for 2 days before my new PSU showed up)

It seemed fine on its own for those 2 days. The old 7970 ran great by itself prior to the upgrade.

I'm going to take everything back to basics, as my C: drive isn't really a problem for me. All media is stored separately, all games are stored separately and run on a ramdisk anyway.

I just grabbed a win7 pro SP1 iso, so I'm going to reinstall, and set my OC back to stock.

Once I have everything up and running and drivers sorted, I'll retry my OC and see how I do. Will report back after.

Ok, system reinstalled from scratch. No problems getting everything activated and back online.

Reinstalled cat13.5, everything seems lovely.

Re did my OC to 4.4, and thus far no problems at all.

Hopefully this maintains. I should have started with a clean install in the first place :)
