What is the best way to recreate a brushed look for aluminum or any metal for that matter? I couldn't find any good sites on it, can anyone help me out?
 
Use a "SOS pad" then clear the metal before you get finger prints on it.
 
If you just take a normal piece of aluminum, and work with with an SOS Pad, it will give the brushed look as in Lian-Li cases? I'm thinking about fabricating a piece for the inside of my case, but I want i to match rest. If it's that simple, intersting...

Yes. The SOS won't be the exact same as LiLi cases. You need to get sand paper and experiment with higher grit paper (320+) to get the same look as LiLi.

Yes.

With sand paper for a brushed look you need a really high grit. And SoS pads are alot cheaper then sand paper and don't were out like sand paper does so the brushed look does not change as your rubbing the metal.
 
It also can help to make a jig out of wood that you can put the SOS pad in and will guide it in the same direction over and over on the piece you are sanding
 
If you have a high speed grinder and a fine wire brush type wheel you can make swirlies :cool:

or simulated wood grain on metal :p

I saw this Ipod that was sold on ebay because it had a "brushed metal" look. I was LMOA because all he used to make it was a pot scrubber!!
 
isn't there a chemical treatment the metal goes through to get those lines? like, submersed in fluid, and then charged, and the charge determines the direction of the lines? That's what i've been told anyhow.be nice to know if there was some place that did that that you could send it to...
