Ive been caught up lately in trying out Opera and have noticed that it limits my bandwidth. I am wondering if some of you guys that have IE,FF, and Opera can run a download test on each to compare. Unless your on dialup, go to TestMy.net and choose Largest-2992kb. Do this for each browser, but try to do it in under 5 minutes so results can be similar. Try to keep open programs to a minimum. Heres how I did my test...

The only other programs running on my system besides those three browsers were Symantec AntiVirus 10 and Yahoo Messenger and Paint for the screens. I run an Adelphia 4M/384 line. None of the browser settings were changed from default. The only extensions running on FF at that moment were Forecastfox, AdBlock,Tabbrowser Preferences,Mouse Gestures, Nightly Tester Tools, Chrome Edit, and Reporter. In Windows Task Manager IE7 Was using 17MB Ram, Opera 9MB, and FF 21MB.Results...

On the other two pc's I tested this on results were very similar. Im anxious to see if other users have similar results. Oh, all three machines I used have XP Pro with SP2.

Wonder what I have setup different. All three run oboard LAN. All go through a BEFSR41 router. Browsers were simply installed, no tweaking, except the ext.'s on FF. Hope some more users chime in within a day or two so I can try to make sense of it.

I ran it again with opera a 3rd time and got 6188 Kbits/s or 755 KB/s down.

Well After Testing FF I realized I don't have any other browsers installed. I will be putting Opera on the machine and posting those results along with a fresh set of my FF results when I get off work later today.... Anyways This is why FF gave me this morning. This is on my home Cable connection. Whatever the basic package is.

:::.. FF Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 7360 Kbps about 7.4 Mbps
Download Speed is:: 898 kB/s

OK...I lied...I had IE on here too. To my shame...I will be ripping that off my machine later.
:::.. IE6 Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 4995 Kbps about 5 Mbps
Download Speed is:: 610 kB/s

Yeah I still cant make any sense of it. I tried tweaking all Opera settings I know of and still no difference. I asked a couple guys at work and its seems 50/50. Some get the results I do, some get equal recordings.
