Broken Northwood CPU pin, need help!

Hi, I have a P4 3.0C SL6WK northwood cpu that is missing a pin. I purchased it off a guy and he said it booted up with the missing pin but did no further testing. Attached is a pic of the CPU with the missing pin circled. Please let me if you know what that PIN does or is for. Could it hurt my motherboard. Also do you guys know anyone that can repair it? Thanks for any help.

I think it's the VSS .. which is ground .. should work .. No idea why it doesn't .. you can get it fixed though .. http://www.motherboardrepair.com/index.php?sec=procrep
