I have posted twice on [H]ardforum for advice on PC builds, and both times got excellent advice. I know next to nothing about Macs, but my girlfriend managed to break her MacBook Pro display, and it's kinda my fault, so I have to help her fix it. You see, I was at my desktop working, and I told my girlfriend who was sitting on the couch in the next room over a lame joke. Lame as it was, she laughed hard enough that her laptop fell off her lap onto our hardwood floor and the LCD cracked/broke.

After being broken it just showed distorted images, sort of like static. My girlfriend ordered a replacement LCD and put it in. Although the laptop boots fine and the image on the screen is visible, the screen is very dark. Changing the lighting settings for the display has no effect. My girlfriend believes that either the LCD connector is not seated correctly or there is a problem with the inverter board. I have included some pictures of the display below, although it is even harder to see anything on the screen in the pictures than it is looking at it directly.

What I am hoping to get here is help with 2 different problems: 1) how to fix the screen on the laptop, and 2) advice on what cable to get so she can connect her MacBook Pro to the extra Dell monitor I have. For the cable I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayP...VAVE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1299354788&sr=8-3. I would rather get a generic/after-market cable than the official Apple adapter if possible to save $.

The MacBook Pro is model # MB404LL/A, a Penryn MacBook 13 Black.

Thanks,
Mitch
