• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Broken links with ref in them

The hearts represent a banned word and is systemic, so it can't be 'fixed' without removing the censored word from the filter and it's there for a reason.

But why was it suddenly banned? I don't remember it being this way for the last 4 years.

I'm sure that it was banned for user protection, but aren't all the users here a little smarter than that? This breaks just about every single PHP/ASP link out there. The fact that TinyURL was also recently banned compounds the problem.

My guess is to prevent people from linking referral sites aimed at making money.

Most likely....I'm checking out the filters to see exactly how it's blocked parsewise

some websites track advertising revenue, via an additional piece of address at the end of the website addy, so the website can track where the link came from and pay advertisers accordingly

it would be something like http://www.hardocp.com/index.html?ref=1234567890 instead of the normal http://www.hardocp.com/index.html

if it was a real advertiser, hardocp would realize you just clicked on an ad from the site numbered 1234567890 according to its records, and it would know it owes the site some money.

obviously with all sorts of random people posting on this forum, with little to no user verification, it would be tempting for people to post spam, and obtain money for that spam.
?ref= and other snippets of coding are censored to prevent that from happening, and decrease the value of hardforum as a target for drive by advertising.

since this is for the most part, a tech savvy group, we all understand we can remove all the junk after the .html in the web address to make the address work.

see, the page is still there @ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/17/technology/17digital.html
