broken hd280 headband

My hd280 headband finnaly snapped (plastic and the metal band lol).. Not too bad considering they lasted over 7 years.

I quick google search found a replacement headband assembly for 50 bucks which is not worth it considering a brand new unit cost like 75 bucks and the sennheiser website doesnt even carry that part..



I would hate to throw these babies aways..Any ideas?
 
You could always call Sennheiser directly and ask what it'll cost. I just got new ear cushions and they said they carry everything for my cans and currently in stock (I was calling about my HD650's though and not HD280's).

If you can't get it any cheaper than either buy another pair of HD280's or perhaps save some money and step up.
 
I busted my HD280s in a bicycle crash a while ago, the only way I could find to fix them so that they'd clamp properly was to take a piece of flat metal (I actually cut the end off a fork) and use it as a splint of sorts, wrapping wire and then tape over the splint and the break. It's a little ugly, could probably be done tidier but it is quite solid. I only use them for bike riding so appearance isn't that important.

That's what I do when something goes broken.

Unfortunately, I don't exactly know what's a better upgrade to it since I haven't heard the HD280.

Depends what the budget is, for $100 you could definitely upgrade.

I'd be interested in this too, not because I'm unhappy with my 280s but an upgrade is an upgrade. They need to be closed, fairly light and have a decent clamping force. I just haven't found any other sets in the $100 range that meet these criteria.
 
The koss UR40's are super light and i hardly even notice them when they are on my head. They sound good too for a cheap headphone. The have a sound signature similar to the HD650 senns.
 
Hmmm. Me thinks me will buy some Sonys and some Pannys, pick my favorite and give the other one to the next friend I see using stock earbuds. Those prices are pretty reasonable, if I can get close to them. Thanks guys.
 
I already have a pair of modded hd555. Just feel guilty throwing aways the 280 when they still work. Guess I'll try to mcgyver it
