Broken hard drive, need advice.

Ok, i just got a 60gb hard drive from my friend that is maybe 2-3 years old and i installed it as a slave on my comp and it worked fine, the next day when i take it out of my comp to bring it to his house to get some music files back that i gave to him so i could format, i noticed that one of the little golden prongs on the back where the IDE cable goes was missing!!! I put it in his comp and it doesnt read it!!! Is there a way i can fix that, need to know ASAP or else im screwed bigtime.

:eek: how the heck did you manage to do that?!

Well I can think of two possibilites... one get some copper wire and solder that wire to the board... or two try to install the IDE cable the way they use cpus with missing pins, stick a wire in the socket (your ide cable) with a bit of wire sticking out, plug it in and hope you dont get a puff...
 
You also might need to consult with the drive maker, or a professional hard drive repair shop. A data recovery center might also have the expertise to fix this problem. Though all of the above options will likely be expensive.
 
3rd option locate the friend with the best soldering skills, buy a replacement IDC to circuitboard connector (likely from molex) and replace the whole thing

Id drop by the Electronics forum for advise and potentially help locating the part ;)
 
thanks awdark, it worked!!

yea i dont know how i did it, i think i might have pulled out the IDE cable to hard and one of the prongs might have gotten pulled out along with it, oh well, doesnt matter now.
