i just formatted a few days ago and recently got my pc set up how i like it, but did not yet make a new image of the drive.

today it was nice and cool out so i decided to see how far i could push my rig. i got it up to 2.8ghz (stock is 2.4) and it was still pretty stable so i wanted to go higher. i upped my voltage a little more and pushed the fsb higher. i got into windows then it frooze, blue screened and restarted. then i went to reboot at the stock settings after resetting the bios and low and behold the dreaded "operating system is not found or may be damaged" message of doom appears on my screen. so right now i am formatting once again, and i will make sure to make an image of the install this time :)

i think i will be taking a lil' break from OC'ing for a while. formatting is just one of those things that is more of an annoyance than anything. luckly i have all my data backed up etc.
 
Most of the time that message only means that something went wrong, for example.

You reset the BIOS, thus you rearranged the boot order, MBR all confused.
You forgot to lock the AGP/PCI, can't read the disk at all.

Did you check all options before formatting and re-installing ?
 
i tried fixmbr and fixboot in the repair console and checked my settings. but right now winxp is installing after formatting already.

i guess its a lesson learned
