I don't know how true this is given it's from Fudzilla, but with the Core i7-4790K possibly paper-launched soon and actual release in September, it might as well be.

Sources close to the matter are telling us that the Broadwell chip that Intel CEO Brian Krzanich promised to ship before the holiday season might not be the real McCoy. As you can imagine chip development takes a lot of time and effort and shrinking the Haswell architecture from 22nm and turning it into Broadwell at 14nm is not as easy as it sounds.
TL;DR summary:

  1. A slimmed-down version of Broadwell coming this holidays (2014) and a full-fledged version coming "later". I think the closest equivalent will be the 28nm Maxwell (GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti) that came out not too long ago, with the real Maxwell parts coming "soon".
  2. This might even delay Skylake release in 2015.
  3. Cherry Trail Atom is still coming late 2014.

Until socketed Broadwell K with 128MB L4 cache is available... I don't care

That's very confusing. What does slimmed-down mean?

Broadwell should have Iris Pro 5200 and DDR3.

Besides the IHS/TIM improvements with these laughable Haswell Refresh parts, it's a completely pointless release. Broadwell has got to be the most confusing thing Intel has talked about. Needless to say the excitement isn't really there because of it. Perhaps due to the issues they're having with 14nm?

They might as well just scrap both lines and make Skylake something that everyone can jump on board with in 2015. Of course they wont, but they don't need these yearly releases anymore now that die shrinks are getting more difficult and less improvements are being made either.

I don't get it either.

By slimmed down, non-K versions only? Mobile-only models?

Reduced cache or only lower end models?

I haven't found other news about this yet, so I'm not sure what they meant by "slimmed-down"?
