Breaking news from inquirer
http://theinquirer.net/?article=14484

In an article, the inquirer had made another speculation.
The 205-210 million nv40 might as well be the nv45.
Nvidia plan to release their nv45 a bit early to lay the smack down on ATI. The 175 million transister original nv40 has been moved to the mid range.

If that is true than, Ati will have to release the r480 immediately to compete against nv45, and r420 move down to midrange to combat nv40. Ati will need a miracle.

Ofcourse, Inquirer might be full of crap, if thats the case, then I will never go to theeir site for news again. :p

I don´t think ATI will need a miracle. After all it´s nvidia who has been playing catch up lately.

We just will have to wait and see really.

I wuv inquirer! They got so much speculation out recently, I am glad I just got me a 9800 Pro..

Speculation # 4534: nVidia and ATi are not going to launch nv40/r420 until september 2004!

Nvidia made the mistake of underestimating competition. NV grew complacent and slept while ATI crawl past them in performance.
They made their second mistake by not participate fully on the dx 9 devlopment board in the beginning and switching to .13 micron prematurely. All these mistake cost Nvidia the lead. However, i don't see them repeating their mistake.

I'm done (in fact have been so since early last year) getting all hyped over any websites 'breaking news' or 'post-retail numbers' cause it all pans out differently once the product hits the streets.

I hope Hardocp will compile a list of mistakes made by Nvidia vs Ati.

To start off:
After Nvidia bought 3dfx it grew complacent
Nv 30 was delayed by half a year
trusting tsmc and its premature .13 micron process
using 128bit memory on 5800
using a loud dustbuster on 5800
the tremendous size of 5800/5900 cards
not taking dx9 discussion board seriously at the beginning
not taking 3d mark 2003 discussion board seriously.
Making unfair extension in its driver to improve game performance
5800 lackluster performance.
extreme heat dissipation NV30-38
nforce 3 150 is slower than its competition
soundstorm wasn't included on nforce3
a addon soundstorm chip isn't available yet for nforce3 motherboard.
soundstorm technology hasn't advanced since its inception with nforce 2.
Nvidia had a great soundblaster killer and didn't take the Initiative to mass market its product.
no nforce for intel pentium

Ati:
ati line of card use slower memory compare to Nvidia
Ati Half Life 2 voucher instead of a real game bundle
Ati underestimate NV40
catalyst 3.9 and 3.10 unstable with battlefield 1942.
ati preventative measure against overcloking give nvidia the advantage.
more expensive than competing Nvidia cards
tight liped about next gen graphics technology
3rd party overclock utility doesn't provide increase in 1mhz increments but instead with rediculous 2.25mhz increments.
lack of partners compare to nvidia
Ati president Ho Kwok Yuen isn't charismatic compare to Jen Hsun Huang's leadership.
Ho Kwok Yuen was involved in a ati corperate accounting scandal.
IGP 9100 isn't very popular
igp 9100 isn't very powerful
no igp for amd.

If anyone has anything to add please post on this thread.

Firstly we need to correct a few errors Lmao

ATI
ati line of card use slower memory compare to Nvidia=(Still much better performers anyways)
Ati Half Life 2 voucher instead of a real game bundle=(not Ati's fault but valves for stalling development)
Ati underestimate NV40(PURE UNADULTERATED HYPE)
catalyst 3.9 and 3.10 unstable with battlefield 1942.(Funny last time i played bd1942 WITH cat 3.9 and 3.10's they worked Great)
ati preventative measure against overclocking give nvidia the advantage.(You ever tried to overclock a Radeon they overclock very well indeed)
more expensive than competing Nvidia cards(Not true on the whole)
tight liped about next gen graphics technology(IT's worked for them the last few times)
3rd party overclock utility doesn't provide increase in 1mhz increments but instead with rediculous 2.25mhz increment's(your using the Wrong overclocking tool)
lack of partners compare to nvidia(theres more coming on board and more jumping ship from nvidia)
Ati president Ho Kwok Yuen isn't charismatic compare to Jen Hsun Huang's leadership.(This is just pathetic)
Ho Kwok Yuen was involved in a ati corperate accounting scandal.(more dribble Nvidia was involved in driver tampering=Pathetric)
IGP 9100 isn't very popular(It's not doing bad for a first attempt)
igp 9100 isn't very powerful(nor was it ment to be uber powerful)
no igp for amd.(Alls i can say is good lmao :p )

Nvidia

After Nvidia bought 3dfx it grew complacent(True)
Nv 30 was delayed by half a year(true)
trusting tsmc and its premature .13 micron process(true)
using 128bit memory on 5800(true)
using a loud dustbuster on 5800(true)
the tremendous size of 5800/5900 cards(true)
not taking dx9 discussion board seriously at the beginning(They still aint taking it seriously)
not taking 3d mark 2003 discussion board seriously.(It's shit anyways)
Making unfair extension in its driver to improve game performance(sounds like nvidia)
5800/5900 lackluster performance.(true:p)
extreme heat dissipation NV30-38(very True)
nforce 3 150 is slower than its competition(very True)
soundstorm wasn't included on nforce3(Didnt like it anyways lol)
a addon soundstorm chip isn't available yet for nforce3 motherboard.(No Lose)
soundstorm technology hasn't advanced since its inception with nforce 2. (No lose)
Nvidia had a great soundblaster killer and didn't take the Initiative to mass market its product.(soundblaster audigyII was lots better;)
no nforce for intel pentium(Please no I think i would leave pentiums for good lmao)

Yet more rumors:rolleyes:

"Ati underestimate NV40"

Don't know how you can say that since either product isnt out.

"catalyst 3.9 and 3.10 unstable with battlefield 1942."

Wasn't unstable for me, or my other 5 machines with ati <and Nvidia products I'm no fanboy>

"more expensive than competing Nvidia cards"

Hmmmm cosidering you can get a 9800pro for $212, but you can get a 5900ultra for $335. Also should add you can get a 5900n/u for $217 www.newegg.com

"lack of partners compare to nvidia"

Considering ATI now has Asus, Msi, and Abit making ATI cards on top of BBA cards and Sapphire. I think ATI is doing well.

DASHlT
P.S. No fanboy I own both Nvidia and ATI products

Making unfair extension in its driver to improve game performance

Think about what you're saying for a second. Isn't that partly the point of a driver revision?

Of course, I believe that you really wanted to say 'benchmark performance,' instead.

You could have made this much shorter:

Some people just can't be objective.

I hope it is true...this back and forth war with nobody staying on top for very long means some kickass hardware for us at sane prices.;)

All of the following is speculation based on Inq facts:

The Inq also reports that the CEO is hopeing that the new chipset will be twice as fast as the NV30, and if its not he will be disappointed. Only hopeing for twice as fast? They need at least a good 50 percent boost in DX9 to definitively surpass the 9800 as is now...

Regardless, I'm thinking any of Nvidias chipsets are going to Need GDDR3 to get good performance (Nvidia typically being an insane memory bandwidth hog)

Nvidia is supposedly retrofitting FX5700's with GDDR3. That is an awfully low-end (IMO) card to be using such expensive and rare memory on, which makes me think its a marketing gimmick to boost the speed of one uber-rare 5700 so it can be used in benchmarks and say "Look, the FX5700 can beat a Radeon 9700"

Edit: A R420 with regular DDR might be the best price/performance affordable option in the immediate future (in say the next three months) Just from the faster Mhz core speed and memory, the two extra vertex pipes. Nvidia seems to be heading to only use DDR3 with the NV40, which may price it right through the ceiling but may give them the performance crown.

LOL............................... you beat me to it!

Yeah, that post was pathetic. Should ban the tarts and let all us swearing flamers roam free.... oh wait! :D

What an uneducated pile of poo the whole post was. While ATi OC utilities dont go in 2.25MHz increments (for example) , I'd rather have coolbits utility from the manufacturer and never need to flash to an unlocked bios anyday....

Theres excuses for everything... even if you have to use the wording of posts. Funny, hardware manufactureres make enough excuses and promises they dont need an army of fangays. You may be surprised after reading to find an ATi in my sig, don't be, I have used both companies AND dont have my head up my ass.

Damn, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I read his post.

Not necessarily.

When a driver turns off eye-candy without asking (or even lying about it) and hopes to God you won't notice, that's wrong.

Doesn't matter WHO does it, it's wrong.
