Hi there.

I've recently bought a Beyer DT770 ( still has to arrive though ).
Now i want to save up for a decent CD player, amp/source-switch, headphone-amp ( if possible with crossfeed ), cables and a set of speakers.

Now I am in search of some HiFi brands wich are avaible in Europe.
Here is my budget:
CD player: €/$ 150-200 ( i prefer digital/optical output )
Amp: €/$ 300 ( two digital/optical input one for CD, one for PC )
Headphone amp and crossfeed: €/$ 200 ( digital input is okay, not nessecery [ sry for spelling ] )
Cables: We'll see, are Belkin or Monster any good?
Speakers: €/$ 400 ( a bit stylish looking would be nice too ;) ) I'll start listening to them in stores as soon as i have the time.

I see a lot of Kenwood, Pioneer and Technics in the stores around me. I see them as high quality, but are they?
[edit] Forget about Technics, theyre DJ equipment [/Edit]

thank you for your expectise,

Lone

I am no expert in the field but am facing the same choices now.

With one exception: I have speakers, active ones, already.

Unless you are one of these "ultimate audiophiles" - let me share some thoughts.

1) With this budget allocated so tight to so many things you might not get the best equipment. First of all I doubt there is an amp out there that meets the criteria in this price range. Audiophile stuff is expensive as hell. But you can get e.g. Marantz CD5001 and PM4001 amp for about 700 Euro and some not too big speakers.

2) But what about getting a pro CD player with balanced out, a small mixer (by default with balanced ins and outs) with properly amped headphone out and a pair of active speakers? It won't look auiophile but will actually give you more flexibility:
-smooth crossfade between sources - if you ever need this,
-EQ
-and insert point to connect some outboard gear you might get in future, e.g. some tube processor or another enhancer...

3) I am looking at small mixers like Behringer UB502 and Cd players like Tascam CD A700 or Sony CDP-D11 Aprox. 600 euro together

Don't believe the digital hype - signal needs to be converted from digital to analog somewhere. If your CD has decent converters, signal can be fed into further analog circuitry and even get some "warmth" thru that. And this all can be had for less then 1,000 euros...

Good Luck!

Edit: you can check head-fi forum for audiophile and cable talk.
Very nice headphones you have there ;)

Though the Behringers look attractive for the price, they won't likely give you the kind of quality you want. A Mackie will probably be more well-suited to your needs.

Which mackie mixer would you recommend?
Would you know if any of their small mixers have digital inputs?

Well, i am not lookingf for really high fidelty / SQ.
This setup ( i should've mentionned this ) is for a bedroom filled with Gypprox walls ( 3 of them ) so a decent SQ ( nice highs and tight basses ) will be ruined by vibrating Gypprox walls...everything will be shaking like mad. The setup will be use to create a background sound. ( When i invite frinds to a small party and such ). So i am looking for better than average ( the €/$ 200 all-in-one stereo you find in every shop ) wich looks nice too.

I've looked at Cambridge Audio and they seem to be what i am looking for ( yes i ditched the opticals....thx for the suggestion ^^ )

Now for a decent Headphone Amp with Crossfeed...( I CAN get a decent ione for €/$ 200 right? :s ) It seems i need to build it myself ( oh-noes ) as i prefer them to be in one 19" package. God, Belgium is a retared country when it comes to avaibility.... everything needs to be imported :(

Now flame me for wanting better looks then SQ :p....
