recently bought an intel for the first time since the celeron 900 days, it's a 520j 2.8Ghz w/HT.

The problem i'm having is my system starts lagging and taskmon shows 50% cpu usage, but when i list processes by cpu usage, system idle is at 99%. when i look at performance, it shows cpu1 at 100% and cpu0 at 1%.

how can i see what processes are running on cpu1 to take up so much processor time? it seems like it should be a simple process, either enabling something in taskmon or downloading another process viewer, but i must be using the wrong search terms when googling.

i think what you can do is right click on whatever is using the cpu and check the affinity that it's set on
it might be set on just one "cpu"
i like to mess with this like load everything on one cpu and let the other one do something else, it somehow feels smoother this way
like when shrinking dvd's and listening to music i put that on "cpu0" and let "cpu1" handle my game it's not that bad FPS and i don't got a 3.8ghz either just a 2.4C i was playing NFS U2
 
yeah, i can set the affinity, but whatever process is running cpu1 to 100% doesn't show any usage on the process tab, so i'm assuming that the process tab is only showing procs/usage on cpu0.
 
no i think it's both
when i don't set an affinity specifically for one process then cpu usage number included both virtual cpus. and when i looked in that graph both of the graphs had lines up and down
 
well, if that's the case, then i have processes eating 100% of 1 logical cpu's processing time (50%) overall, that simply don't show up as using any cpu time in the process list...

it happens primarily with azureus, when i load a new torrent. if i close and restart the program a few times, it goes away.

anyone else seen this?
