Boutique PC Shops using 3/8" tubes

I wanted a quiet(er) system that looked good, and after seeing Liquid_Cooled's PC, I knew I wanted DD :D
I ended up with a TDX, Maze4 GPU, Eheim 1048, and a BIP2, which gives me silence and good performance (Sub 90F idle, sub 95 F full load) with my overclock (2500+ mobile @ 2.4GHz, a 600 MHz overclock).
To each his own I guess, but my system allows me to have MUCH higher performance if I wanted (New pump, and turn my fans up).
I used 3/8" for my first build, but next time it's gonna be 1/2" or 7/16", simply because I like the look of the fat cooling hoses going everywhere :D

With a plain old AMD 2600+ and an original Koolance EXOS I could hit 2.4 Ghz and run all my games quite reliably with an Ati 9600 Pro. Decided to get a water cooled OC'd 9800 Pro so I could drop the OC a bit and get the same results. :D Before you ask what were my temps I have no idea and really didn't care (my EXOS reported me being about 80-90 degrees from the probe on the waterblock) as I ran that configuration for over 18 months before I decided to upgrade to a different processor.

And the point of that post was...?
Looked like you were flaming me, but really, I'm stumped. What the heck were you trying to get across with the smileys?

Not flaming you at all. I was merely pointing out that good results are obtainable from just about any decent watercooling configuration.n Perhaps the moon was in bad taste so I apologize and it is deleted.

actually the ID of the DD fittings is slightly larger than 1/2" [from the 1st page with the pic of the page from "PC Modder"#2 :D ]

Ahh, ok
I was just going along with the "How and why you chose what you chose" style posts :p

alright guys....if im all wrong, then why do boutique shops use 3/8th tubing over 1/2in tubing?
Because it is harder to work with, not worth the cost considering the minimal gains, and did I say costs more?

Which boutique shops though? Voodoo PC uses either Corsair Cool kits or kits directly from Swiftech - Swiftech was mostly 3/8", but no one complained how terrible it was for them

Alienware uses Koolance parts and they do overclock the stuff.

Kits like the Thermaltakes & Coolermasters use 1/4" tubing, not 3/8".

Here's a relevant article on Pro Cooling: http://www.procooling.com/index.php?func=articles&disp=142&pg=1

"We have now seen an additional generation of new pumps (the Laing DDC) and it seems that water cooling may be moving towards using 3/8" ID tubing again with higher pressure low flow rate pumps."

we are talking a BOUTIQUE PC SHOP! not people here. and you can get dead silent aircooling for less then watercooling.

if your not overclocking, which makes more sense? expensive watercooling for silence? or cheaper aircooling for silencer? exactly.

I hate to breatk this to you and shatter your misconceptions but boutique builders such as Voodoo and Falcon NW and Velocity can, will and do overclock anything to a customers desire within stability. You can configure a machine with OC'ed CPU, GPU or both and most places will still cover the warranty as long as the OC is left at the level they set it to.
