i've need a computer dedicated to storage for quite awhile now so i "bit the bullet" and bought some parts:

i got the motherboard cause of the 8 SATA 150 connections, i could of gone with a cheaper board, but again this is primarily a storage computer. The vid-card is a cheapie, no use in gettting anything powerful, and it was a combo so i saved $30 with the motherboards/vid card combo. Cheapie RAM, of cource.

I was going to use my 3500+ that i have laying around, but since i will be folding on the computer i decided to get the 3800x2, because everyone know 2 cores are better then 1. That and is wasnt that expensive. That heatsink i am kinda iffy about. I will be overclocking the 3800 to atleast 2.4 and wanted to get a Ninja, but it wasnt in the budget :( I love the Zalman 9500 i have now, but again my budjet wouldnt allow it. Anyone have expierence with that heatsink?

Edit: Yup, he's folding. Very nice price price on everything. It's crazy how much all the prices dropped once Core 2 came out. That should make a very nice storage and folding computer.

Make sure to say the word folding or protein in any new post/thread and no one will give you any trouble -- though that's not always needed. :p

The X1300 is a bit more than a cheapo video card, once GPU Folding comes out in a month ;)

i was under the impression that the GPU folding will only work on the X1900's, Will it work on my AGP x800pro?
 
lamb did you get 2x512 or 2x256 or 1x512 sticks of ram? You might be significantly choking the X2 running single channel ram only. Just something to think about... My x roomie has a 3800+ X2 running at 2.4 right now, and its on YURT so I can give you some pretty accurate folding times whenever you get it built to see if its hurting you much.

I only got 1 stick of 512mb :( I'll order another one later this week. Whats $45 for the cause :)

it should be up and running tomarrow when i get my 24 to 20 pin connector so i can use an older PSU
 
You'll be able to hit 2.4 easily and without any concerns... I've the 3800+ too... It's sweet although its not oc'd right now... Shame to me...

 
i hope i can hit 2.4ghz :) This is one of the cheaper DFI boards and i've heard good things about them and overclocking, but i have never owned one, so we shall see
 
Hopefully using an older psu won't hurt you too much, the DFI boards are sometimes picky about their power. If you can't get that cpu up to 2.4 I'll be surprised. Good luck!
 
Those $150 x2 3800s are staring me in the face. My mobo can do 267, so that's 2.6 for me, but I'm at 2.4 now. Wondering if the halving of cache, but 200 more , well, 400 more MHz is worth it.
 
No, it's not worth it, buy the X2 and another board and stick of ram. Build another system, just do it. ;)
