Ok, planning on doing a watercool setup

as seen below in the pics:

I bought a MCP600
Silverprop HL Fusion
SF Polarflo (havnt recieved)
Re-inforced 1/2 id tubing
1987 Chevette Heatercore

Now the heatercore doesnt have the proper outs, theyre both a little bitter, but i think i can squeeze the tubing over on of them, the other i bought a double ended barbed 1/2'' inlet, how do i replace the heatercore inlet with the one i bought... and does the tubing look sturdy enough to work?

Any idea?

Is there any way you can retuern that heatercore? Its going to be a PITA to get a 1/2" fitting on there. That tubing looks strong but not very bendable. I would suggest some clearflex60.

Anyaway, if you must use that heatercore you will have to get a welding gun and melt the solder around the fittings. Than youll have to buy a fitting with screw threads on one side and the normal barb fittings on the other.

Good luck.

just found out its 5/8 and 3/4 inlets on the radiators, think its possible to squeeze the hose over them both? thanx

and the tubing is pretty bendable...

edit: the brass connector fits pretty well in both outlets, could i cut off a portion of the heatercore's outlets and welt the barb to it? or solder it in??

It should fit over the 5/8" without too much problem but the 3/4" will take some work. youll have to heat up the tubing a fair bit to have a chance at making it fit.

The tubing may be alright but the price of clearflex is low enuff to not chance it with cheap tubing. Some vinyl tubing will actually get brittle over time. Def something to avoid. If you use that tubing just check it regularly and u should be OK.

You could, I did this with epoxy rather than solder. I assume you don't have welding knowledge, so that's probably not the best idea. Soldering is easier, but I've found that it can be tricky to solder brass. So I recommend some kind of epoxy or other strong plumbing/aquarium adhesive/sealant.

yeah, it'll look ugly if you attach yet another connector to it, but you could always just get a heatercore from d-tek ($30)...but that's ur choice, and i'm not gonna say u did anything wrong :p

but JB Weld (so say many people) works really well...haven't tried it, but if I do, I know i'll glue my fingers together by accident....

so, good luck, and have fun welding if you do, and have fun JB welding (??) if you do that too! lol

I have welding knowledge, and a master craftsman grandfather with a toolshop of wonders.

and pinoccio (sp?) was a real boy.....lol

"toolshop of wonders"? dude, sounds like you have some "fairy" issues...........

:p, jk, but, by all means, go for it if you can!

what i ment by the toolshop of wonders, is that he has a ton of stuff, something he cant find, he'll go out and buy another.

how would i heat it up? lighter?

im going to return it and buy the D-tek... w00t? i guess.... least itll be easier...

anyone know the dimensions of the radiator? i mean the actual fan radiator part.

in the process of fixing it, ill post pics when im finished, going with the chop the part of the exenter off, epoxy and solder it in! should work well.

This is the way I did mine, it worked out pretty well and you can change the barbs out if you ever want to go with a different size.

Usually Id say a hairdryer on high would work but going to 3/4" you may have to use a heatgun.

Also I see above you mentioned using 4 80mm fans.im assuming its 2 80s per side? 1 120mm will outperform 2 80s any day. so a single 120 per side as opossed to 2 80s would be a better bet. Just look at the rated cfm on the fans your interested in.

Don't epoxy AND solder, epoxies are polymer-based materials and may not tolerate the heat required to solder.
