I know some say it looks like a Tonka Toy but I like the look and the functionality of this case is about as good as it gets so far. I was a bit concerned that it might be a bit loud with all the perforations and fans but it isn't and with the fans in low RPM mode it is quit quiet. My cpu HSF uses 2 120mm fans also so not including my 5870 video card fan I have a total of 7 120mm fans running and it is not noisy at all. My cpu is i5 750 OC to 4.0ghz so need good cooling and do not want to mess about with water cooling even though this case has mounts and holes for water cooling.

Finished build:

Oh yea, this case has no accommodation for a floppy drive for the luddites.

How about some pics of the side of the case and guts etc?

I'd love to see what the customization options look like for this build.

Does it feel natural to hold it buy its handles or from the bottom like regular?

How do you like the hard drive suspension system? It looks like it's far more effective than a few rubber grommets!

you are right, the hdd mounting system is the best. but the optical mounting is nothing special. also, i am not thrilled about screwing my ssd to the bottom of the case. doesnt leave much room for connectors, and can only be oriented in one direction.

i oriented my opticals the same way as my hdds so i could sort of hide the cables. also, i think the front of the case looks boss without them. btw if your hs/f is as tall as the true, you can NOT put it on the motherboard on the removable tray outside the case. the case is too narrow, and blocks it when you try to slide the mb back in, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the removable tray, at least for me. the true also almost touches the top of the case (all plastic), and does touch it with that plastic fan holder installed. so if you have a true, use the wire things to attach the fans. and if you have a heatsink that is as wide/wider than a true black, be prepared to mount it horizontally.

tennisball head notices that the usb3 passthru cable (mb i/o panel to front panel i/o) arrangement is kind off messy and is visibly upset. he thinks it would work out better if you put it thru the oval hole above the exhaust fan (hard to see here because of shitty exposure)

well, this is by no means a finished product (needs sleeving, swap out fans, wiring management), guess what? no cables can be run between the drives section and the mb/psu section behind that vertical spar. because the side panels are both screwed on to it flush!!! so everything has to be run in front of that spar which seriuosly fucks up cable management. but as far as ventilation is concerned, you do have to admit that hiding cables is not as important as it would be in other cases. and as you can see, tho the openning on the mb tray is huge, it is useless for swapping cooling arrangements if your socket is oriented near the top edge of the board.

the case is not particulary loud. as on all other cases, the only fans which are not openning to the outside are the cpu hs fan, and the vid card fan. so the fact that the case is mesh does not make a hell of a lot of difference.

I didn't slide my tray out to mount mb with Noctua HSF already installed, just plonked her right in there because I figured the tray would not side back in with the HSF on it. I will have to make sure never to buy an HSF taller than my Noctua because I can see already it won't fit very well if I did. I have another case that also has a sliding tray and I never bother to slide that one out either. I don't have SSD HDD either o can't comment.

Here's some more photos for those that requested them. As you can see I am not one for routing all the cables under the mb tray and making it all look neat and tidy, I only routed a few under it.

well, i am a little bit more concerned with cable management than you, i think. this is about half done. i ran out of mdpc-x so i am waiting for some black and royal blue sleeving to arrive so i can finish it up. i have cleaned the true black, too, but i am getting an h70 on tuesday. i wasnt particulary thrilled about the case when i first got it, but its starting to grow on me.

Is it possible to put the top panel in the rear and the rear panel in the top? I'm thinking of a Raven/Fortress type config.

Top panel is non removable and has mounts for water cooling unit. The top panel is plastic and has smoke colored clear plastic in the front part and larger back part has air holes. You can mount 2 fans underneath the top panel too but I see no need for that. You can add more side fans too if one feels the need. As it comes stock though is plenty of fans.

well, i am a little bit more concerned with cable management than you,

Lots of people are but once the panels are on you never see the inside so I don't care so long as the air flow is fine. I remember my Dad painted his car engine with silver paint and he got laughed at when the guy checked the engine oil at the first gas station we stopped at after painting it. I feel the same way as that attendant about you guys that make the insides of your PC all purty. :)

painting an engine silver is totally different. for me cable management is about airflow, ease of cleaning and ease of swapping out parts and reaching stuff, as well as looking boss. i know where each bundle of cables goes to immediately. on the other hand, yours is just a mass of random wires. none of my cables will ever get cut on a sharp edge or get stuck in a fan. how can you possibly keep dust off all that stuff? also, the way i have my opticals oriented, my side panel will always be open (along with the fact that i never have the side panel on on any case i have owned) and the act of sleeving the cables has turned into kind of a zen thing for me. but, like you say, to each his own, or something.

The top panel is removable. Mounting fans underneath it is probably not feasible if you're using a wide tower-style CPU heatsink since there will be very little clearance between the heatsink and the top panel.

Good cable management allows me to access and change components easily without having to move wires out of the way or untangle things. It's a functionality issue more than anything else.

It is not removable unless you take a screw driver to it. You mount the top fans after you move the tray down to the bottom section of the case for mounting the PSU at the top. The cpu HSF will not be in the way after doing that. Do you have this case? I do.

but then the power supply will be in the way of at least one. unless its a very short power supply (less than around 140 or 150mm) it will block both fans. we both had samples of this case before or at release. but they are the same as retail units.

It's not a mass of random wires, they are bundled together with velcro cable straps and some wires are routed underneath the tray. It might look like a mess to you from the photos but it really isn't and the air flow is fine. I don't want my side panel always open either and having the optical drive mounted forward gives me quicker access to it than if I had mounted it sideways.

ok, i get it, your way is fine for you. but after you said that our way is laughable i just pointed out the reasons that i do it, ie ease of cleaning, swapping parts, and access to connections, and less area for dust to collect. also the sleeving protects the wires from damage.

Maybe, it's not something I considered doing or will do so never checked it out fully. If I was to mount a top fan I would probably just use one 120mm fan. I usually only use one 120mm front intake fan and one 120mm back outtake fan and have never had heat issues with that config. The only case I have where I use 2 front and 2 back is with a 10 year old Antec case that uses 80mm fans.

Well, you did say it looks "boss" too and I think that is the main reason a lot of people do it. I guess I am not into that whole zen thing and prefer the quick and dirty method. :)

i feel a lot of air coming out the top of the case without any fans. but i am thinking of putting one there as an intake when i install corsair h70.

I feel a little cool air coming out the top but not a lot. BTW, my cables are sleeved, the Seasonic PSU came with them already sleeved. I also have some tubing for cable management so may install that later but they will still be on top and not under the tray.

Will that Antec USB 3.0 cable still work if connected to a USB 2.0 port?

No shit you have to take a screwdriver to it. Almost every part of this case requires a screwdriver to remove. If you move the PSU to the top then it will prevent you from installing a fan in the rear position of the top panel. And yes, I have this case.

Yes it will.

I never had to use a screw driver to take any panels off because those are thumb screws so no screw driver needed. The top panel is not designed to be easily removed and nor does it have thumb screws. Go download the .pdf manual and also look at the big pictures on the box. Does it show the top panel as being modular and easily removable? No! That is what the person was asking and why two of us replied no.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

well ok then, its settled. the top comes off, but it is not modular. nor is it as easy to remove as the side and back panels. on the other hand, all the little front panels are held on with screws, but are eas

So regarding the standard screws used throughout this case - are they the same thread/pitch/length as any other computer screw? Could I get away with buying a pack of thumbscrews and replacing them all with those?

That's a good question. I'm gonna say no, but give me a few minutes and I'll actually go and check.

Alright, here's the deal. The case mainly uses two different types of screws. One type is used when something is screwed into metal, and the other when something is screwed into plastic (for example, some of the tubes that make up the frame actually have plastic inserts that some pieces are screwed into, like the small 90-degree shelves that are used for optical drive and HD mounting). The metal screws are 6-32 UNC screws just like the ones used for most things in PC cases, so those can be replaced. The plastic screws use a larger-pitch thread that isn't standard, so those can't be replaced.

Awesome! Alright so I ordered a 50pk of black thumbscrews for 10 bucks. This is gonna be great. =)

I wonder if there'll be a way to securely mount a triple rad to the front of this case without wrecking the original panels too badly - any thoughts on that? I don't mind giving up all my 5.25" and HD bays, as I only have the one SSD anyway.

There is no way to mount a radiator in front without fabricating your own bracket.
