I suggest a sturdy wooden table. It's non-conductive, and it won't build up static electricity. Carpet is the worst place you mentioned.

Don't wear socks - either do the work barefoot or with shoes on. (Socks, like carpet are good at building up a static charge) -

Finally, you can discharge any static charge you might have before you start by touching a metal faucet.

Good luck, and take your time!

ah ok, tyvm, just fyi, i was mentioning carpet as wether i should stand on carpet barefoot or wooden floor, or wether it would make a difference :p

Do you have any idea how long this will take me? (keep in mind this would be my first time transfering computer organs)

If you bought it at a store, I'd suggest returning it and buying a CM 690. I have an Antec 900 and it has given me nothing but trouble and frustration.

Try doing it on wood if you can. But seriously, I've built my computer with socks on and put my motherboard on my carpet for a few hours. Nothing happened. I think people go overboard with this whole you might shock the computer talk.

If you wear shoes, be sure they have leather soles not plastic/rubber as you want to be as close to ground potential as possible, not isolated.
Wear cotton clothes (wont generate static), not anything made from acrylic etc.
Touch the computers case before handling electronics.

the antec 900 isnt good? :(, i got a deal for it for 65 bucks from a guy on craigslist, after researching on newegg, it got aroun 3000 5 stars..

I have an Antec900 and love it to bits.
Its never been in any trouble and always comes home on time.

great case if you have the revision with the holes for wire management...mine doesnt and the mess of wires is horrid. also unless you like the blue leds cut the wires on the outside of each fan and the case looks much more menacing when blacked out. my recommendation on the fan config is all 120mm on low and the big top fan on high. case attracts a good amount of dust but not that bad. great case in my opinion i've had 3 of my friends build their rigs with it and they have no complaints.

I had an Antec 900 and ditched it and got a CM 690. I mean some of the things are very fixable...cable management is non-existent in that case so you can cut some holes. That case fills up with dust really really fast so buy some fan filters. However, accessing the hard drives is a ridiculous pain in the ass which cannot be fixed.

I mean the case's exterior looks fantastic...just alot of frustrating problems.

The Antec 900 was my first case and I love it's looks. I was among the first to buy it at release and the only complaints that I have was that cable management was a PITA which affected my airflow. Plus, after 1 month it gets really dusty.

Cable management is fine on the later A900's.
I bought mine 7 months ago and it has decent cable ties built in.

If you are really stressed out on cable management then pick up a dremel and a couple of cutting bits. About an hours worth of work and sone attention to detail and cable management becomes a complete non issue. There is a 900 thread floating around here, with some great wire management going on. I'd sugest going and taking a peek. :)

The dust issue isnt any worse than any other high airflow case, its just more noticeable becuase it cant hide under plastic farings etc. I prefer it this way, so I know when to clean my gear.

Another way to avoid static is to install the power supply first, plug the power supply in and leave it switched to OFF, or switch the power strip you have the power supply plugged into off. Good luck on your build.

If you have a few holes in the mobo tray it is the 900 Rev. B and it is possible to do decent cable management without drilling. There is a video of this on youtube somewhere and you can take it from there. I've done this myself and it works quite well--I'll post some pics later.

I recommend putting your HDDs in the bottom cage, leaving an unobstructed flow from the middle fan through the case and over the components.

The 200mm fan moves so much air that it makes the rear 120mm superfluous. I recommend moving the rear 120mm to the side panel as an INTAKE fan. This creates a nice airflow over the hottest components, and turns the now-empty rear grille into pressurized intake.

The side intake fan dropped my nb and cpu temps by 10C.

I have this case and the cable management at first sucks but I made a few holes in it and now it is Super clean. If you have the time I recommend that you try that and it will make a big difference in Air flow and Dust.

I have several 900s in the house because I like them. Drilled a couple holes in the motherboard tray to run cables behind the board and spray painted the interior all black. Looks nice. :D No complaints otherwise - personal tastes, I guess, some people really hate this case, some people love it. Dust is a problem - I blow mine out about every 2 months, takes 5 minutes.

The general cabling, with a temporary hdd in the middle which is now gone:

After removing the extra drive for a clean intake to the critical components:

The 900 is certainly limited without making extra holes, but a tidy cable trunk tucked away at the back is better than in the way of the air flow--and this case is all about air flow.
