Bottom mounted psu

I am currently looking for a new case. I have focused primarily on the cm scout and cm 912/922. One of my goals is to find a case that has better cable management features. I noticed that the cases I was looking at had a vent where the PSU sits. I currently have an old Antec 900 where the psu is upside down. This is inconvenient because most PSU's have its cables routed to go on the left side because of the traditional top mounted psu. Since mine is upside down the cables awkwardly face away from the mobo. The vent on these new cases allow the PSU to sit the way they were built to. My concern however is that the PSU's heat will not be vented properly because it is going to the bottom of the case where it would bounce off the ground and go back into the psu. Does anyone have one of these cases? Should I be concerned?

Most of the cases with bottom mounted PSUs have a cutout in the bottom of the case with a filter to allow the PSU fan to intake cool air from under the case.

By the way you worded that, it sounds like you have the wrong idea about airflow within the power supply itself. The fan on the bottom of a psu is an intake, and the hot air is exhausted out the back of the unit. Even with the psu on the bottom, the air coming out the back will be at least warm and will rise away from the bottom of the case by itself.

QFT. If the PSU were the way the OP worded it, then hot air would have been blown back into the computer system's case if the PSU were mounted on top.

There were some Dell slim line computers that had the power supply designed this way. Parts were always frying in them.

I highly recommend a PSU on the bottom. It really helps with heat control in your case, and makes keeping the cables clean.

I'll also recommend a bottom psu, once you get one you'll realize how much better/easier it is to deal with. I own both the haf and the scout, and I can say that both are pretty nice cases. The haf is bigger, but the inside of the scout is nicer since its already black instead of that ugly silver. Both have good enough cable management and good "tooless" drive bays.

I already have a bottom mount psu case. The antec 900. The issue is that supposedly you don't have to put the psu upside down in the new cases.

nalc and Cschill190, are on the right track. Cyclone3d is right about what he said but is going off on a tangent. The rest you, for some reason, believe I don't currently own a case with a bottom mounted psu.

I'm confused as well with your description of the heat bouncing off the floor and back in. What do you mean by your PSU is upside down.

I'll assume your PSU has a bottom mounted fan. When you have the power supply situated at the top of the case the fan faces the floor. It sucks air up and exhausts it towards the back. Now if you put the PSU in a case where it's mounted at the bottom of the case then the PSU sucks air from the floor vents and exhausts it to the back. There's no bouncing about.

What do you mean by your PSU is upside down.

In that Antec 900, the fan that normally faces downwards must be turned "upside down" so that the fan now faces upwards due to that case providing no room at all whatsoever between the PSU's bottom panel and the floor of the case. Simply put, in that Antec 900 the bottom of the PSU literally touches the bottom panel of the case.

I see what you're saying. If that's how it's sitting, then the psu is just pulling air from the inside of the case instead of through the bottom. Regardless, you won't run into any problems with any type of bottom mounted psu, upside down or not. But I know my lancool case I had not too long ago had vents and a fan filter down there so you didn't have to turn it upside down. Most should be like that now.
