I wasnt sure wether to start a new thread or not, but i did so if thats the wrong thing please tell me... ><

Ok, well ive decided on getting a Leadtek 6800GT, OCZ 2GB Preimer DC DDR, and a Asus nforce 4 Ultra motherboard, now here comes the question

1) with the current components, do u think there would be ne bottlenecks, or is the 2gb enough to support the 6800gt?

2) will a 3500+ be enough to support the 2gb and 6800gt, or would i want a faster CPU to take full advantage of the card and the ram, if so what would you recommend?

Thax again, Blitz

First of all, why the 6800gt? They are around $250 new and for another $50 or so you can get a far better card in the 7800gt. The only reason to go 6800gt is if you had an old mobo and wanted to stick to AGP.

Secondly, nothing at all is "limited" by 2gb of ram, you won't need more for any game you plan to run in the next few years. In fact, almost nothing is limited by 1gb of ram (bf2 is the only current game that comes to mind which needs more and that's due to poor coding).

Lastly a 3500 is plenty and won't choke your system. If you plan on running at 1024x768 with no AA/AF, then yes maybe it will be the bottleneck but at that point the difference between 100fps and 110 fps is negligible.

FEAR also needs 2gb of RAM to run well also.

The 2GB RAM thing is debatable. BF2 and FEAR will run just fine with just 1GB, but for sure 2GB would get you a fair performance boost. I'd say 1GB is the minimum for gaming now.

For a 6800GT, a 3500+ is more than enough. If you can, you should try to get a 7800GT instead even though it costs a little more.

that setup will run fine

normally the amount of ram isnt what determines a bottleneck in a system its usually the frequency the rams rated like (ddr 333/400/500) if u dont plan on overclocking i recommend ddr 400 with good timings like 2-3-2-5 if u do plan on overclocking ddr 500 would do :) dont get anything below 400 tho :p

that proc would be enough usually the only setup that u wouldnt want an ultra weak cpu with would be sli or crossfire then u could possibly be wasting valuble frames but a venice +3000 would normally be enough for a single card currently

.

Maybe in the states, but here in Aust, a good 6800gt is $450, and a good 7800GT is $650+, so id rather put that towards something else, im on a strict budget of $2000
