Bottleneck Software??

Is there such a thing? The rig I want to test is the one in the signature. And a few others...

To look for bottlenecks, you can run Resource Monitor / perfmon. With that running, you can perform your normal operations. If you're looking at all the right counters, you'll find your bottleneck.

Vista... and that hard drive, definitely. Slap Windows 7 on there and grab a better-than-average SSD (Intel if you're rich, OCZ Vertex if not) and watch it fly... and I'm pretty sure it's a 1TB "Caviar" drive... ;)

Joking? I was? Didn't think I was... pretty sure I wasn't... ;)

New machine, new build (apparently), lots of power, why tie it to the past, slap Windows 7 on it and be happy.

We still do not know the application of the user's system, so how can we judge what the bottleneck during an unknown set of operations will be?
Exactly. The hard drive most certainly might not be the bottleneck in overall gaming performance, which is probably what the OP is referring to.

This computer is used for gaming, one game in particular... iRacing motorsports simulation.
I don't care about how fast Vista 64 loads... It pretty damned fast as is... it was Caviar, forgive me for I live in Cleveland... The OS, and Games are obviously on the 150GB Velociraptor. With that being said, what now would be the bottleneck?

Not much else you can do, if you have the money to spend...go SSD, but IMO it won't be all THAT much faster than the Raptor. Got a fast processor, oodles of RAM, good graphics.

Nice little tweak you can do..move your virtual memory/pagefile to the Caviar drive.

run pcmark or somthing of the equvalent and see what sections you get lower scores on

but to be honest i wouldnt bother with that system other than to see what its capable of
