Bottelnecking at the CPU

After reading through the cpu scaling article on [H] it got me to thinking. I have a 2600+ XP-M runnning @ 11x220 = 2.4ghz.

Is this going to limit me from truely taking advantage of all these new cards?

I was thinking very strongly about going for a 6800GT but now I am concerned that maybe a 6800 Non-Ultra might be best considering the cpu might bottleneck.

A little bit sure, but not by shocking amounts.

Buy the 6800U and keep your current CPU now, when you go to upgrade again you'll be able to take care of what little CPU bottleneck you have no problem.

i'd say go for it and let the cpu be the bottleneck for a while. it won't bottleneck you as bad as a lower-grade card will, and you'll be much happier knowing that you're getting the best performance you can and didn't "settle" for less

I have a 2500+ mobile at 2.4... it seems faster than at 2.2

A PR speed rating of around 3400 isnt bad at all... I am sure all of us still stuck with "fast" XP's will have tons of fun with our new 6800's...

Another vote for the Ultra, when you upgrade your proc and mobo you can take it with you and see even better results :p
