I'm reading the orac3 writeup again (man I love what he did with it) and I really have a hardon for the way he did the wiring. If I did the same thing he did, wtih the jacks and the wires, and covered my watercooling's tubes with metal, would I be a complete bastard? I want my case to be black and silver, I was planning on dying the water black but I might do that instead. There are a lot of other things I need to do to it and honestly you cant even see the inside of my case (windows can suck me beautiful) but I just am wondering about the ethics of modding...

i think that if its something challenging like that, ppl would encourage you to do it just based on level of difficulty. in other words, its sufficiently [H] so, as long as you dont blatantly rip it off, it would be legit.

besides, all the cheeses that havent seen it will think you're jesus.

dont they already?

I probabily want to get the black drivebays first, then fix a fuckup I did when cutting a hole (damn drill), possibly change my LEDs, then I can really think about this. Again, I dont have a window so it might be kind of pointless; the black dye would be cheaper and easier.

i should also figure out how to get my old ass bgmicro 2x20 vfd in...its gotta be silver or black text or it wont look right. what colored filter is the question

it seems that you agree with me that the fit&finish of a computer is one of its most important qualities.

i think you should totally fix up what you're rocking now before moving on to bigger and better things.

oh yes, and obviously post pictures for the cheeses.

many pictures will come, unfortunatly i need sunlight for the best ones because it looks bad with the flash but good in real life. i should finish it first of course :D

/edit: just ordered the panels with 3 day UPS

now to get some alum tape to at least make an attempt at patching the hole

can you PM or send over AIM pics of what you have now? i've taken like a 6 month hiatus from the boards and i've forgotten what you were working on.

...but its okay cos

I'M BACK, BITCHES

not so much imitation as inspiration. i dont think anyone here has the balls to blatantly rip off key identifying features on some of these exemplary casemods.

if they do, they have problems.

everyone borrows from everyone elses work, if they like it ;)

i too am planning on borrowing some great ideas ive seen from the bt mod as well as some others ive seen...

will my case break new ground and be new and exciting to even the oldest modders?

no probably not :p

will i think it kicks ass? yup

hell, ive been around since CCFL's were considered "hardcore" and I know your mod will kick ass :D

Eh, I don't care if you "rip off" anyone else's idea. However, I think it would be COURTEOUS to give credit to the sources you've drawn from.

haha me too. i remember being outraged by Lian Li's first premod window case.

The reason why people post their worklogs is to inspire. There is nothing wrong with "stealing" a few ideas. but wouldnt it be better to come up with some origonal ideas of your own for people to steal? Or what would be even better is to take thier ideas and improve apon them.

JEEVES

ya i remember that... was around the time i registred iirc?

If credit is given where credit is due, many people don't mind you mimicing their ideas.

Yeah, as long as you give props to what has inspired you then its cool in my book. Besides isnt the point of most of these threads to show off and give poeple more ideas based on your work. I have gotten alot of ideas from many threads on here. Which has inspired me on some of my own ideas.

I thinking doing the same thing is alright IF

you give the guy credit.. say I got this idea from so and so's mod..

Don't just leave it up to whether or not they've seen it.

then what if it comes to the point, when so many mods are done, (not neccarialy run out) that we just run out of ideas?

people post worklogs and pics to 'try' to be the first orginal...

and if we have to give credit to every mod we did, who is the oringial modder? when?where? blah blah,
we would have to give credit to every guy that ever put a cutsom PC together...

go for it, i wanna see pics too

This is exactly how I feel. You should credit them to show respect for the one who came up with the idea.

i do agree on giving them credit ,.,

but are we goign to give the guy credit for:

window mod
lcd mod
blue LED anything mod
watercool mod
VFD mod
7v mod

regardless of the wow factor mod, its still a mod,

... just don't go around pretending to be first inline thats all

That's not quite what I meant. If it's something that isn't currently considered a completely standard idea. If you've only ever seen it one place credit it. If it's on everyone's case like all my mods so far don't bother. I suppose there is a line where you have to make the decision. In the end it's up to you.
