We have a computer with Windows XP Home and I am 100% sure the boot.ini file was messed up and now XP won't load. I tried to make a boot.ini file and use recovery console to overwrite the borked one, did so but it didn't work. Im guessing I made it wrong or something. Could somebody post theirs or give a better way to fix this? Thanks

i think there's a 'fixboot' command in the recovery console

Okay I tried that looked promising, rebooted and it says <Windows Root>system32\hal.dll could not be found. I am 100% sure it the boot.ini was what was screwed up but how does that mess up hal.dll? I thought that hal.dll was to recognize hardware...
