So I had this huge (well not really) problem. I had water that was too hot for my hot cocoa, a lot of impatience, and some boredom. Add those together, and I was determined to do something. Obviously waiting for the water to cool naturally was out of the question. So, I scrounged up an OEM Athlon 64 heatsink, cleaned of the thermal pad stuff, rigged up a zip tie hanger for the pyrex, and BANG, I had myself an AMD Athlon 64 water cooler! Now who said those OEM heatsinks were useless? :D

I also threw in a thermometer so I could tell when my water was at the perfect consumable temperature. Sometimes I amaze myself. :rolleyes: :D In case you were wondering, it is being powered by the cable that my side fan usually plugs into. I was going to rig up a 9v battery, but I was short one 9v battery, so PSU power it was! Anyways, enjoy!
 
well, in my dorm, I don't have a freezer. Plus that makes too much sense, and I was bored. In reality, I could have just let it sit there, but as I said, when boredom ensues, that was out of the question.
 
yeah, i feel you with the whole dorm situation and all. i have a tiny freezer in my dorm.

next time i make hot coco i will try to rig something up like that, i have a few fans and a small radiator aroud my dorm
 
Haha, you could go way overboard and hook up the radiator with a pump, stick both tubes in the water, and it'd be cool in no time. Wow, thats almost taking it too far...
 
You should have mixed in the cocoa while it was still piping hot. Mixes work better when mixed at very hot temperatures, they dissolve better blah blah. Also, when I was in my dorm we had a minifridge that was like 2x taller than normal minifridges and had a very good sized freezer in it too. My roommate said it wasn't that expensive either (for all you people complaining of fridge/freezer space in your dorm....that fridge fit a lot of beer...I mean soda)

lol, the sugar high had me goin for a little bit... then I needed mountain dew to keep it going. Wow, dorm life is boring... ;) :D

Are you working towards an engineering degree? That's the most over-engineered Hot-cocoa cooler I've every seen. Maybe you can get a job with Ronco and keep us all watching infomercials all night. ;) Now if you could just use the fan to also mix the cocoa... :D
 
Yes I drank the water (in cocoa form)! I did wash the heatsink first, im not THAT stupid... ;)

Haha, no, actually my major is professional pilot (hence my name). But I get bored often, and I enjoy my ghetto-rigging. :D And that Ronco dude is the shizznit, those infomercials are so freakin awesome.
Now if you could just use the fan to also mix the cocoa...

I actually thought of that... If the fan was flipped over, I could drill a hole though the heatsink and have a rod which was attached to the center of the hub go through the heatsink with a stirrer attached to the end. Unfortunately the fan faces the other way...

I'm a lot more serious with things that fly, ya kind of have to be. Not just for my safety, but so I don't get on the wrong side of the FAA. Thats something you want to avoid! :eek: :p

Good because (I can tell you from experience that) arctic silver does NOT taste good. ;)
