Borderlands worth getting?

I have over 60 hours of single player with not 1 single minute playing with friends and it has been great.

Seriously though, I'm glad you're enjoying playing it by yourself... I just couldn't do that after playing with friends... there's really no comparison since the game was really designed around and meant to be played with 3 other people.

Not really, considering that the game + 3 DLCs were less than $20 during a recent Steam Sale. Kind of hard to believe that the 4th DLC (which probably doesn't have Fast Travel either) is worth $30. Wait for the sale.

thats because its a steam sale... Steam sales always for the most part go for the gold and are usually 50% or more off. Which gets people to invest time and interest.

I for one have put like 40+ hours in single player, mainly because online with strangers has been hard to do with some people not having headsets.or not finding anyone similar to my own level

One thing that always bugged me is when you attached a higher level mob, you would do almost no damage. The damage you do is proportional to your level vs mobs... i did not like that. Wonder if this was ever fixed...

I got killed in the very first few levels multiple times because of this. even though the mob was only couple levels higher then me.

The damage you do depends on the weapons you're using and any element resistances and weaknesses the enemies may have. That's it. If you weren't doing much damage then you just didn't have very powerful weapons or the enemies had a lot of health.

I'll check that out. But I was up against a psycho (the one armed badass one) and only head shots did any damage to him and even then they were not doing much. This was at the very beginning, the psycho was to the right of the town, where one of the mini bosses is. I could do normal damage to him later, im pretty sure i had the same gun. (the tag above him said Impossible originally)

eh, he is a level 61 I believe. I think enemies 4 levels above you you can only do damage with critical hits, and the damage is normal damage, not critical. So shooting him was like sawing a big tree. Still, not as bad as craw and his minions. wait until you meet them.

It's a good game that could have been great, but the ending was awful. Why not let me explore the mythical Vault after finally beating Pizza the Hut?

The DLCs added a lot to the game. I didn't know about a 4th one on the way, but definitely will get it.

All of the "boss" fights sucked. Maybe they've added/fixed some things since release, but when I played it every "boss" was a joke and totally anticlimactic.

I thought the boss from Jakob's Cove (mutant Ned) was pretty good. I swear, General Knoxx sounded exactly like John Goodman.

I'm on my second play-through in single-player and am having a blast again with this game. The weapon feel is top-notch, as is gun variety, and I'm really appreciating the sound/voice work in the game too this time around.

Did they ever "officially" fix the FOV issue? I was using a work around, but had to manually re-apply it every time i exited a vehicle. It was a fun game, but other stuff pulled me away before i finished it. Would not mind hitting it again, if they fixed the couple of annoying issues that it had at release.

Unfortunately you still can't properly set a custom FOV.

True, but the Pearl weapons weren't as powerful as those I already had. By the time I played through everything (including DLCs) twice, my strongest weapons were...

Jakobs shotgun: 174x12, 6 shots
Jakobs pistol: 131x7, 6 shots
Jakobs sniper: 707, 5 shots

I got them from multiple runs through the Secret Armory before taking out Crawmerax.

I'm surprised that you haven't gotten better drops than those. I see sniper rifles that do more damage drop all the time, even from random enemies.

I am pretty frustrated in single player mode. My toon is level 50 and I am still running around with a level 29 gun simply because I haven't found a better one in all this time and the level 29 one is becoming increasingly inadequate.

I'm at 58 as Brick and my strongest weapon is a Jakobs shotgun that's a 54 (174x12/6 shots). It did the job and wasted every bad guy, so I'm not too worked up. I just expected to have better weapons at my level on the 2nd playthrough.

And that's with me running around with a +2 Team Find Rare Items mod since level 40. I do have other guns, just no better revolver.

Are you sure it's only lvl 29? It might be displaying as 29 because of your pistol proficiency, you can un-equip it to check it's true level.

I played as Brick on both playthroughs and I was simply ALWAYS sporting the worst weapons because assault rifles never dropped, and if they did, they were worse than what I had at lvl 20. I finally got to the point where I decided that it was just better to maximize my turret and sit back and heal the rest of my team. Soooo not how I wanted to play that class, but there was really no fun/viable alternative because my weapons were never up to par with what everyone else had.

Just twigged your name is related to mountain bikes. I'd love a Cannondale but bit expensive. I had to settle for a Specialized Hardrock Disc, although I'm going to upgrade to Trek 4300 Disc soon, better components mostly Bontrager

Ah yeah, that's correct, when unequipped it's a level 34 one.

Nope, just finished PT2. I am level 54, back in T-Bone Junction now.

Okay, I just found a Dahl ZPR15 shotgun that's 279x12, 2 shots. Nice upgrade. I still prefer Jakobs, though.

I should try those. I had a hell of a good time with gunslinger. You can get some pistols that are basically like the best of all worlds with great scopes, rapid fire, great damage, etc. You get the right high end gunslinger class mods and it just gets insane.

I have been using a +2 rare items mod for since L40 in PT1 and throughout PT2 and the results are far from satisfactory. If I had to do it over again I would definitely use a superior class mod to the +2 rare items with mediocre support stats.
