Borderlands for the PS4

Hey guys, a few of my PS4 buddies are seeking another game to play online, we're currently playing Destiny Taken King. I remember the first Borderlands for the PC allowed co-op story mode, world exploration and awesome gameplay, which borderlands for the PS4 allows this type of online gameplay? I tried google but they just keep talking about split screen, which is local co-op, correct? We're more interested in online co-op for Borderlands.:confused:

Pretty sure all Borderlands games had 4 player co op. Didn't try handsome collection though.
 
What about Diablo 3?

I have the handsome jack collection.

On Borderlands 2 you can do 2,3 or 4 on split screen and or any variation of online users and offline users up to 4 at a time.

We haven't touched the prequel yet, but you can definitely coop online with B2.
