Hello everybody!

I hope somebody can help me with this problem.

My computer boots up really slowly.

At the moment my computer starts about in 70-80 seconds, that's when all the cables are properly connected.

When i disconnect power cable from Cd-Rom, computer boots up around 25-30 seconds.

Does anybody know how this is possible?
and is there a fix for it?

try disabling IDE autodetection for the channel you have your cd drive connected.. also set the HD as the first boot device..

You might try a few things:

a) try a new power connector (probably not it, but takes all of three seconds)

b) replace the IDE cable - if there is some problem there (frayed or broken wire) lots of strange things can happen

c) move the CDROM to a different IDE channel

d) try another CDROM and see if that makes a difference - though this will be the most expensive of the choices here unless you have another drive sitting around

I have seen in the past (on one of my old systems actually) a CDROM with a flaky controller board that would intermittently fail. It caused Windows to either take a long time to boot or would cause Windows to pause a while when the drive failed as Windows started to wonder why I was hot-swapping CDROM drives. Replacing the drive solved all my problems.

It was a TrueX too. Fast drive, not really reliable though.

Hope that helps.

I changed the IDE cable and now the computer starts in 40 seconds.

Thanks for your help
