So I am sure most of you have heard of this problem. It is pretty common and I have seen it on many laptops during my IT positions. If you have not seen this error, basically after turning on your computer with windows 7 or vista installed it will post and you will see a error saying...

"BOOTMGR IS MISSING
CTRL-ALT-DELETE TO RESTART"

From what I understand this can mean many things but most of the time it means that some boot file within your windows os is corrupt? Anyways, I had the pleasure of receiving this error today. I am currently posting this from the computer in my sig, which is the one that received this error. I have temporarily bypassed the problem but it is not a complete fix and I was hoping you guys would be able to help me find a solution.

I have three hard drives in this computer. Two Intel X-25M G2 80 GB SSD drives and 1 WD Caviar Black 640 GB drive. The two SSDs are not in any raid configuration, they are just separate drives. The Windows 7 OS is on the C: drive which is one of the SSDs. The other SSD is just a storage drive for games and the WD Caviar Black is just a storage drive for media.

After a bit of tinkering I was able to bypass the problem by only having my C: drive plugged into a sata port. I then tried it with both the SSDs and it booted fine again. I then tried it with only the C: drive and the WD Caviar Black and it did not boot. From this deduction process I think it is safe to conclude that the problem has something to do with the WD Caviar Black.

After getting into windows with both the SSDs connected before posting I connected my WD Caviar Black back into the sata port and it appears to be working fine. But, as soon as I restart the error will appear again unless I unplug the WD Caviar Black before posting.

Any suggestions on how I might further diagnose this?

Thank you

With the System SSD drive and the Black plugged in, access the Boot Drive menu during boot and tell the system to boot from the SSD. If it works then for some weird reason your BIOS settings have been reset or something and the system is trying to boot the Black.

Right after posing this I went and screwed around with it a bit more in the bios and that was the problem. It was trying to boot from the wrong drive. It is the weirdest thing cause I have no idea how my bios settings were changed. The only new thing I did was plug in my Droid to my computer for the first time...

That's crazy. Was the droid still plugged in?

Nope it was unplugged.

You can fix it with a Windows Install disc, as well.

Yea that was something I tried as well. After loading the installation screen I selected the Repair option. It then brings up a window asking you to select the drive on which your OS is located, but there were no drives listed there. The drives were listed in my bios though. This is what actually led me to believe everything was still working since I could "Load Drivers" from the repair window to find my HDD. Once I did that I was able to browse all 3 drives as if they were working perfectly fine.
