One of my 5850s went out so I purchased a 280x since it is faster than my previous crossfire config. I still want to use my other 5850 for feathercoin mining. Everything works fine when the 280x is in the primary slot but if gets way too hot. I tries switching them but now my PC doesn't even show the 280x i n device manager. I want to use the 280x for games but also have the 5850 Available. The 280x lights up and the fans turn on, but its not detected.

Any help?

So I have an update.

I got the PC to boot using the 5850, then disabling so the 280x becomes primary, then re-enabling it. This worked fine (though troublesome) for a while. Then I rebooted the computer and and the 280x never showed up in device manager. I finally said screw it and put just the 280x in. The computer wont even post. This is what I tried.

1. make sure power is connected and LED's are green
2. Use different power cable
3. use different pci express slot
4. Reset CMOS
5. updated motherboard BIOS
6. yell in fury
7. put old card back in (works fine, using it now to type this)
8. Leave the PC with no power for the night

any help?
