Last week, the fan on my cpu/heatsink basically died. It would still operate, but just not at the level it was supposed to, and thank god the heat monitor shut down the PC immediately. I didn't smell anything burning, so a couple of days later, I powered it back on and it worked fine.
The fan for the heatsink is an older model, so I couldn't find the exact replacement (60x60x38, Delta high performance fan... the really loud one) so I had to buy a new heatsink/fan combo (some thermaltake make) etc. Wiped off the old arctic silver, applied the new layers yadda yadda yadda... here's the problem.
With everything installed, the computer will begin to POST, but then at the black & white Windows 2000 loading screen, it shuts itself off again. I'm guessing this new combo isn't keeping the cpu cool enough, or there is a problem with the contact between the heatsink and cpu. But I wanted to make sure that is the problem or if anyone has any suggestions or help on the matter.
Does that sound like a heat monitor issue? Or is something else causing the boot to shut off?
Thanks in advance!
