Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what the best, most efficient/effective way to set up my system is. I know there are plenty of ways to skin a cat, so I'm really looking for as much insight as possible...

I have a 430GB SSD I'm currently using for my boot drive and general storage (mostly right now just Steam games, of which there are less than ten). I do have a 2TB HDD that I am looking to use as my mass storage when I complete my final build.

What I'm trying to figure out is, is it advantageous to essentially put the \Users\ directory on the HDD, so Docs/Music/Downloads, etc all reside on the HDD, while the SSD only handles the under the hood components of Windows & smaller(ish) programs. Or is it better to just put \Users\ on the SSD as well, and have a pointer to \Music for example. I am planning on adding HDDs also as storage gets limited, will I be able to add a physical harddrive to the same logical volume so I'm not sifting through Drive letters as time progresses?

If anyone has any experience and info as to why they chose that route I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to weigh the options as best I can before committing to something like this that will likely be a royal pain in the ass to re-configure down the road.
 
Leave your whole OS on the SSD if you can. You can junction point folders as needed such as Music, Video and downloads but leave the root of \users\currentuser on the SSD for best performance.

I agree with this guy. I would keep everything but large media files on the SSD.

Good deal, okay. Just use the "Libraries" in windows then? I'm assuming I can just point other programs, Steam for example, to Music, and the OS/program will know to look at whatever I have linked there.

Large files including games (Far Cry, Dying Light, etc.)? Should I leave those on the SSD until I'm not really playing them and move them over?
 
I put everything on the SSD, and have mapped network drives on my file server that I keep all of my "documents stuff" on the server. It's not any slower than local storage. I would actually move the folders, but DHCP is too slow on the network and the server doesn't connect fast enough.
 
I certainly wouldn't add new drives to a "windows pool", I don't think windows does that anyway yet, but I wouldn't trust it. I hope you have backups.
